When making a regional selection during Installation, the wrong regional services could be selected. The file system has been updated to make it resilient to corruption caused by unexpected interruptions (e.g. power loss) during asynchronous data transfer. I'm reasonably sure you can watch one recording whilst two others are taking place, but don't hold me to that. Automatic trash removal now takes place in Standby. Previously this would take place after boot-up and could slow the system down if there was a lot to remove.

As with other Freeview kit, your location has to be entered so the correct channels are listed in the EPG and duplicates removed. An issue that could make it impossible to set series recordings for some programmes. This happened when the T2•R received two regional variations of the same channel, e.g. BBC One SE at 1 and BBC One LON at 800. This did not affect channels with +1 (e.g. ITV & ITV+1) or HD alternatives (e.g. ITV & ITV HD), only regional variations. You can record two programs but you cannot watch a live third at the same time. For the money it is a very good straight forward no nonsense PVR. Very responsive remote no delay button pushes. Nice user interface. Two year warrantee. The usual features you might be used to on your Sky/BT/Virgin Media box – such as pausing live TV for up to two hours, initiating series links and making one-touch recordings – work like a breeze.

At this price you don't get luxuries like app control; use the electronic programme guide (EPG) to select channels for viewing or recording instead. This can also 'remind' you when a programme is due to start and supports series-linking. If there's a schedule clash, you're invited to set recordings on the offending channel individually as Record 2 programmes at once. Need to record more? The T2-R will suggest alternative broadcasts to make it work When there are regional variants of channels stored, e.g. BBC ONE NE at channel 1 and BBC ONE WALES at channel 800, the system will always prioritise the primary channel for recordings.

When a partial or failed series recording is re-recorded by the T2•R, the original recording will be deleted, unless it is in the process of being viewed. When a major retune event (e.g. addition of a new multiplex) is signalled by the broadcasters, the T2-R will display a prompt to retune. This can be done straight away or postponed until convenient. Such retune events normally occur no more than once or twice a year. Split recordings (normally movies in 2 parts) now show the time after the date so the first part can be easily identified. Further improvements to come.
The other irritation is the lip sync. This varies enormously, particularly so when recording a number of HD recordings, whilst watching another HD recording. Every now and then the picture seems to run as if in fast forward for a second or two while it catches up with itself, then the lip sync will be OK for a minute or two before drifting off again. It is much better if I watch a recording while not recording anything else, and SD recordings also seem less afflicted.

In addition to Smart Retune, Full Retune can now be chosen from the Tuning section of Settings. The Full Retune completely removes the existing channel database and is necessary when the T2-R is moved to a new region (e.g. when moving home). HD channels are crisp and vibrant. The TR-R excavated detail from Bodyguard's murkier scenes while visually complex props like computer displays were well-rendered. In comparison, standard-def channels are soft and pallid. With SD or HD, motion is smooth with no untoward judder provided the source material is up to it. Press the GUIDE button on your remote control. This displays the TV Guide, making it easy to tell when you find the right input.
