They are a great price for the quality of the product, and the perfect accompaniment to combat our new working world. Preferably Jabra – I have used then before and loved them, unless they give me reason to do so, I don’t plan to look elsewhere Mute dongle – I need a physical button for going on/off mute. Ever been asked a question in a meeting but you can’t get off mute? How about when you’re training and need to cough or have a sip of water? Jabra gave its Evolve2 headsets a makeover from the original Evolve headset design. Instead of a flat plastic headband and segmented earcups, the Evolve2 30 has a cushioned headband with a more ergonomic curve to fit the average head better. Its earcups are covered with a perforated leather material that sits more comfortably on your ears. Plus, its reinforced steel headband and adjustable slider is more durable than that of the Evolve 40. They are an on the ear headset with rotating ear cups, an extremely soft flexible headband, making putting them on or taking them off fast, smooth and hassle free. Opening the meeting “pre-join” screen (is there a meeting you should be joining? Just press the Teams button on the side and the pre-join screen pops up…brilliant feature!) A soft gel like headband that moulds to your head shape, there is still pressure from the headband but only minimal due to the cushioning. The Jabra Evolve2 30 has a more modern look than the Evolve 40. The Jabra Evolve2 30 (left) sports better fitting curves compared to the Evolve 40 (right).

The Jabra Evolve2 30 has better mic and sound quality than the Evolve 40. The curvatures of the Jabra Evolve2 30 (left) and Evolve 40 (right) is easier to differentiate here. Wait, what? I don’t have those sidetone settings…ah, yes I do, but I missed them. Anyway, the sidetone level was pre-set too high, I tried a few settings and was torn between off and the minimum…I went for the minimum setting in the end and the problem is solved. Excellent service from Jabra. Comfort Straight away, you notice the high quality materials used on this Evolve2 40, deep memory foam on the ear cups that isolate the majority of any external noise.

A dedicated Microsoft Teams button (press the Teams button to action the thing it is telling you about) to:Wired – I swap between two PC’s all day long. I just prefer being able to pull a USB cable out of one, and pop it in the other. Also, most of the Dalek-esque sounding people I hear on calls are using Bluetooth headsets

If you want on-ear, wired headphones, these are well worth a look…despite my strop about no dongle, and another strop about the ‘noise in my head’, I am 100% keeping them and am very happy with my choice. Update 24 March 2021 I found the Jabra Evolve2 40 fairly straight forward to install as it is pretty much plug and play, though I had to set it as the default listening device in a few of my apps.As with most corded headsets, the Jabra Evolve2 40 is incredibly easy to set up. Just plug it in to your device, and it will automatically set itself up so you can use it straight away. Both UC and MS variants work with all major softphone applications, while the MS version is optimized for use with Microsoft Teams. It also comes with a dedicated Teams button- making it perfect for hopping in and out of meetings throughout the day.
