Best for: earth-conscious water drinkers looking for something super sustainable and versatile that’ll keep their drinks icy cold for days (yes, days). Cutting out the toxins from your plastics is all well and good, but if you're looking for a slightly more eco-friendly option, glass water bottles are the way to go. I don't know if it's just me, but I always think that it just feels nicer to drink from glass rather than plastic anyway (even if it's just for the aesthetic of it all).

Hygienic Aqua Spray Water Bottle - Optimum Hygienic Aqua Spray Water Bottle - Optimum

If you’re buying a reusable water bottle with the intention of becoming more environmentally friendly, it doesn’t get more sustainable than the S’wheat bottle. The S’wheat is a reusable plant-based water bottle made from wheat straw and bamboo. The wheat straw is the stalk part of cereal plants which remains after they’ve been harvested. Usually, wheat straw would be used as biofuel, animal feed or burnt in the open - causing pollutant emissions. What else to consider: If you don’t like the built-in straw, you can open it up fully and chug via the wide mouth. The straw does add an extra component to clean, but if you have a small brush that you use for reusable straws, it should be a breeze. You'll be making a difference with this water bottle by BBBYO. Featuring an airtight lid and a double-walled insulate inner, this bottle keeps drinks cold for more than 24 hours and drinks hot for 12 hours. Made from 18/8 stainless steel, it's BPA free and durable. I’m a long time fan of Chilly’s Original Bottle and I’ll admit I was dismissive when the Series 2 bottles first came out. They’re objectively less attractive than the classic design of the Series 1, with a more rugged, squat appearance and a loop handle. But I’m here to tell you I’m a convert. The best thing though, is that the bottle is actually a scale. It literally tells you how many ounces of water you have drank in the day, and it applies that to personalized goals. I've had it for a few months now, and I couldn't be happier with how it works.” — Jacob McNeelThis glass water bottle by Porter is ideal for work, travel and everything in between. Made from borosilicate glass, it is BPA free and features a protective silicone cover and screw cap. Despite the fact that I mildly hated on my Hydro Flask, it had enough redeeming qualities for me to include on this list. In doing my research, I discovered that they redesigned their bottles in 2020 to make them dishwasher safe, meaning that they must have read my mind or been terribly sad to lose me as a customer. With this update, they are now on par with the Rambler in my opinion. They have similar double-wall vacuum insulation to keep your water cold for up to 24 hours and a wide mouth for easy filling. The straw-style cap is particularly appealing to me, as that’s the way I generally prefer to drink, and the 32-ounce capacity is perfect for long hikes and/or limited refilling since one of these bottles is close to the 36-ounce water recommendation for adult women to consume in a day. I’m often a little wary of water bottles with straws because I’ve previously found they become rather unhygienic. This water bottle uses antimicrobial drinking surfaces and a stainless steel telescopic straw, which comes with its own cleaning brush. It’s just as well, since it can’t go in the dishwasher. Best for: those new to the reusable water bottle game who want to dip their toe in with something more affordable and just as aesthetically pleasing. What else to consider: Only the lid is dishwasher safe, but that can be the hardest part to clean, so it’s definitely better than nothing. The biggest complaint from reviewers seemed to be that it didn’t keep their drinks cold for long enough.

Promising review: “Love this water bottle and the Teddy color is stunning!!! All the aluminum, or plastic water bottles (won’t name brands 😂) I own will just have to go after trying bkr. Will definitely get more colors!” — AT Best for: staying hydrated while traveling with safe, cold, and healthy filtered water on you at all times. If you’re into the vibe of bkr but prefer a wide-mouth sipping experience, the Porter glass bottle is the one for you. It’s made from a similar borosilicate glass and has a protective silicone sleeve that comes in a variety of chic, muted colors. The wide mouth makes it easier to clean by hand, but it’s also a dishwasher-safe bottle. Plus, the glass doesn’t hold on to tastes and smells the same way that steel and plastic can, so you can use this bottle for your coffee or green juice, wash it, and your water won’t taste funny. BPA free. (BPA stands for bisphenol A. BPA is an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins).

Promising review: “It keeps all my drinks cold, easy to clean, and it's so cute. I live on a tropical island, and the weather is always warm. I've gone to bed with the bottle filled with ice and the next day it's still there, and my drink is cold af. 1000% recommend.” — Natalia A. Gomez Torres The simplest way to figure out how much water you need to drink is to pay attention to how often you go to the bathroom (and what it looks like when you go).
