About this deal

The rest of the feature list goes well beyond the norm. You can chop out sections of a recording using an editing tool that lets you enter start and stop points in real time, or split a recording in two. The picture-in-picture mode lets you watch two channels at the same time and even has its own set of controls on the remote. You get access to all the usual Freeview features including lightning fast digital text, MHEG support, favourite channel lists and subtitles, which can also be recorded. There are also four devilishly addictive games embedded in the firmware, which help pass the time when there’s nothing on TV.

Please note that once step 13 is finished and you save the results, please leave it on BBC1 for ten minutes and the guide will be fully populated. If this utility can be run from a box where the loader application file won't load the this may be the caseTesco Mobile is to start charging new and recently joining pay-monthly customers to use their mobiles in Europe from 2024. For flat TV owners there's also an HDMI output, able to deliver 576p and 720p video, but, perhaps curiously, not 1080i/1080p. If you're a regular Superdrug shopper, you can now earn more freebies and discounts under its Health & Beautycard loyalty scheme, as the retailer has launched new 'VIP Rewards' as part of it.

So that's it. A neat, classy set-top box that works well, is sensibly priced and would be a real pleasure to live with. Sounds like a deal to us...

My post also specifically states that re-flashing the firmware was irrelevant to the process - its just where technical support pointed me to - and then I worked out what was on the disk and decided that the best way to see if it was going to be serviceable was whether it could be formatted. We’re also hugely impressed by the EPG, which is logically laid out and plays live TV in a box as you browse. Setting series link is effortless – just highlight a programme, press OK and a dialogue box asks if you want to record the series or just once. The rear panel is even more interesting. The most significant addition is HDMI output, which offers a clean all-digital connection to your flat-panel TV and allows you to upscale Freeview pictures to 720p, but strangely not 1080i. It’s taken a while for HDMI to make its way to the Freeview PVR market but with Humax and Topfield leading the way, others are sure to follow suit. During TV viewing, you can summon the 'iPlate', which provides more information about the current programme than any rational being could ever need. This could present a minor problem for those who want to integrate the PVR into an existing Freeview set-up, but for those looking to "go digital" for the first time, it is less of an issue.

With the picture quality and ease of use of the award-winning PVR9200T, but with twice the hard-drive size, the addition of an HDMI output capable of delivering upscaled pictures to make the most of your flatscreen TVs, and some truly useful new recording options this new Humax would make a fantastic upgrade to an existing freeview box. The problem i have is that come what may i cannot seem to control the sound via the sound control on the Humax remote control. I have to revert to using the tv remote to change the sound which is v annoying. It just seemed to be a major shame that this very good PVR should be rendered totally dysfunctional by a relatively simple and not uncommon HDD failure and then for the solution from tech support being return your box for an exchange unit either paid or free......

Two tuners, of course means you can record two programmes at the same time, whilst watching another, or if using the aerial loop-through, you can still use the tuner in your TV. A word on warning on the loop through - if you turn on the "power saving in standby" feature, it will not pass the signal through very well, meaning some channels drop out. Can the system format a new unpartitioned drive or do I need to run a linux Live CD and partition and format the drive first? The Humax PVR9300T is a the bigger brother to the popular 9150T, and whilst you get all the same benefits there are also some essential additions which make it a serious device for the power user.
