About this deal

Let's get this point out of the way first. It's not a brilliant movie. It's a low-budget movie, with some seriously bad acting (David Hayter seems to have about 4 facial expressions in the movie). So why do I find it so appealing. Like Both Screaming Mad George, Steve Wang was adept at creating monster effects, and Wang worked on the prosthetic effects for such films as Hellboy II, Alien: Resurrection and Predator. Unfortunately, neither George nor Wang has much skill at directing actors, and The Guyver is full of stilted, sometimes hilarious dialogue (“I’m sure the inventors of the atom bomb didn’t know what they were doing either”), and some blank-faced acting from some otherwise okay performers. At first glance, it seems as George and Wang have done a good job on the Guyver costume. It has the same cool silhouette, broad shoulders and bony protrusions as the one in the comic, and the brief sequence where it takes over Sean’s body is quite impressive. MONSTERS: We get a whole bunch. A Rihno creature, A Frog monster, a intelligent-looking "Predator" like creature, a Bee creature,a beetle man, a scaly humanoid creature, a big ugly alien, and several indistinct aliens in tubes. Seriously, people aren't going to expect much from this. It's a B-movie, with unknown actors based on a cool, but average-in-popularity anime.

Three years after the dismal joke of a movie "Guyver", we are greeted with a second attempt at bringing the mildly popular manga to into live action with the movie "Guyver: Dark Hero", a loose sequel of the first guyver movie. Processing usually takes a day or so on average (Although far briefer, and longer periods are possible); during this time, the subject is suspended inside a tank filled with amniotic and apparently hyperoxidated fluid (meaning, it can be breathed) and hooked up to feeding and monitoring cables. Interestingly, it is possible to prematurely interrupt processing, while the subject still is capable of taking a Zoanoid battleform; however, this will dramatically reduce their life span. For instance, when Genzo Makishima was processed into Enzyme-I, he estimated his remaining life span at a week, while the Enzyme-II's commander Guyot deployed died within an hour. What type of Zoanoid a subject becomes can apparently be set to an extent; some types are more 'common' in the population, and can easily be mass-produced - examples are Gregole, Vamore and Ramotith. It is apparently possible to turn any human subject into a Ramotith. An intimate scene between Lisker and Weber in the van as they wait for Striker & Ramsey. He mentions the two of them going shopping in Brazil, and she absolutely loves the idea.

The Guyver was produced by Brian Yuzna, who was behind such fleshy classics as Re-Animator and From Beyond, and sat in a director’s chair for the fantastically grim satire, Society (1989), as well as other, lesser movies including Progeny (1998), The Dentist (1996) and cyborg dog movie Rottweiler (2004). Off with His Head!: Sean decapitates one Zoanoid and blows up another one's head with dynamite it caught in its mouth by setting it off with a blast from his forehead laser. Sometimes, the Zoanoid creation process goes wrong; should the human survive this failed treatment, the result is an aberration known as a Lost Number ( 損種実験体 ( ロスト・ナンバーズ ) , Lost Number). These mutant Zoanoids are one-of-a-kind freaks, impossible to replicate and implied to be functionally sterile by all means. Because of their mutated nature, Lost Numbers can vary widely in their capabilities. It's implied that Lost Numbers are results of experiments that ultimately discerned the methods for creating Hyper Zoanoids.

That's what probably did the worst for the movie. For a B-movie, it was great, but since the DVD lost a huge amount, I didn't get the full story... Nor did the story seem to make any sense. Despite that shortcoming, enough was there to give you the basics. Shout-Out: The fight between the Guyver and the sword wielding drug runner resembles a fight in Batman (1989). Major scene transitions in the "director's cut" are accompanied by slash going across the screen with a two-note techno theme. None of these are in the VHS cut. Additionally, 3 violent scenes are not in the so-called director's cut:Why did I enjoy it? Well it's just a fun movie. Though a lot of it is actually quite cheesy, especially the dialogue, there's nothing like a good old sci-fi movie with martial arts. Defiant to the End: After having the electricity for the camp blasted into her, the fried female Zoanoid grabs at Atkins' ankle as her final act before Atkins finishes her off. Hyper-Zoanoids physically stand apart from normal Zoanoids in that they have unique abilities, usually at least two separate 'power sets'. The most powerful Hyper-Zoanoids can be considered to be a match for the Guyver. Recently, more advanced Hyper-Zoanoids have appeared, that have been modified specifically to fight a Guyver, possessing qualities that negate several of its weapons (eg, reactive armor that can stop a vibro-blade and resist the vibrations of the sonic buster). A remastered version of the film was released in Japan in 2005. There's no difference in the 2005 version other than newly remastered sound and additional new music.

If you are a fan of Yoshiki Takaya's Manga series (but are unable to buy the comics or Anime series), it's best you see this live American adaptation first, not Screaming Mad George's first film which was released in 1991. So the fight sequences look a lot like a power rangers episode, but imagine it to be more like a Rated R power rangers. And that concept alone is worth watching this movie. The American version of the film, distributed by New Line, cut several scenes to focus more on action than humor. Producer Yuzna expressed confusion at some of the choices. [1] Reception [ edit ]

Guyver: Dark Hero was released direct-to-video in the United States in 1994. The film is also alternatively released as Guyver 2: Dark Hero in the US. In the Philippines, the film was released by Solar Films in theaters as Predator 3 on March 9, 1995, rated "PG 7" by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). [4] Critical response [ edit ] But for some reason, its not a slow movie. And that's good. I think this is the first, live action performance of David Hayter. He looks like a very, young and generic 90's man. Rasputinian Death: Volker after a long fight with the Guyver, has his ribs smashed in to the point of vomiting blood, is stabbed multiple times with the elbow swords, has his gut and chest carved into with said swords, arms broken and wrists snapped to the point of rupturing his crushed fingers and joints, gets his eyes blasted out by the head beam, and then finally has his skull caved in to put him down. When a Zoanoid dies, whether in human or battle form, his body will disintegrate with alarming rapidity; essentially, this is the same process that allows them to transform from one form to another.
