At that time the helmet was the only change to my equipment. What I can say is that there was never any time when I was wishing I was wearing another helmet for performance reason. And that is a pretty good endorsement in my book. I can’t say yet whether the Vanquish MIPS is sufficiently cool and comfortable for me to use it as an everyday helmet in all conditions — and in fairness, Giro characterizes it as “part of an arsenal” as opposed to an ideal do-everything lid — but initial impressions suggest that it may come closer to filling that role than most other aero road helmets I’ve tried in the past.It’s worth noting, though, that the straps aren’t removable for washing, as on the Scott Centric Plus for example, and a chinstrap isn’t provided. If the eye shield is a bit full-on for a Sunday group ride you can, of course, use the Vanquish MIPS with regular glasses. The vents are specifically designed to double up as eyewear ports and I've found them to work well with a couple of different pairs of Oakleys, for example.

Would I buy this over a Giro Synthe or the new Aether? No I wouldn’t – I don’t need to be more aero, I’m not a good enough rider to appreciate the difference – but I can understand the appeal of the Vanquish. the dash to the finish line, the Vanquish Mips® shapes the wind to work for you. The MIPS system consists of a low-friction layer between the EPS lining and the padding with an elastic fixation. This allows the helmet to move slightly (slide or rotate) during a crash. It will move around your head to absorb the lateral and rotational forces that could occur.
