About this deal

Lewis, Cameron (June 25, 2013). "Deadpool review". Official Xbox Magazine. Future US. Archived from the original on June 26, 2013 . Retrieved May 21, 2018. Deadpool is an action-adventure video game based on the Marvel Comics antihero of the same name. It was developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows (in digital format only), PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in June 2013. Written by Daniel Way, the game's story follows Deadpool as he joins forces with the X-Men and Cable to thwart Mister Sinister's latest scheme, getting into numerous comedic adventures along the way. Similarly to other media featuring the character, the game includes self-referential humor and numerous fourth wall breaks.

On December 31st, 2013, the digital versions of Deadpool on Steam, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 were delisted for the first time, just six months after their release, alongside most other Marvel titles published by Activision at the time. With the buzz around the upcoming Deadpool film, Activision renewed the license, ported the game to newer consoles, and relisted the original versions for sale a year and a half later in July of 2015. They were delisted two and a half years after returning.

Sweepstakes to Be in Deadpool Video Game". Deadpool Bugle. November 28, 2012. Archived from the original on September 29, 2013 . Retrieved December 21, 2012. After reuniting with Wolverine on the surface, Deadpool goes to Magneto's citadel, killing Sinister's remaining soldiers, as well as clones of the Marauders and Sinister. The X-Men arrive to help, but Sinister easily overpowers them, only to be crushed by Deadpool's Sentinel boot. Cable confirms that this was the real Sinister, and Deadpool calls for the end credits. As the credits roll, Deadpool is thrilled with how great his game is and talks to High Moon's representative Peter Della Penna, who admits that he did not really blow their budget. Deadpool proceeds to do so by causing multiple explosions during the credits.

For those not familiar with the glory of the one and only “Merc with a Mouth,” the spandex-clad Deadpool is himself a parody of an anti-hero. A mainstay of Marvel Comics, he was given a healing factor by the Weapon X boys (the same ones who adamantium-ized Wolverine) in an experimental procedure that left him certifiably insane – and self-aware that he is in fact a comic book character. For that reason, Deadpool also knows he’s a videogame character. In fact, he starts the story – what little there is – by forcing High Moon to make a game about him and then throws out the script it sends over to him for approval. It’s a fittingly insane approach that’s true to Deadpool’s character, even if it doesn’t make for a strong story. a b Red, Carmine (July 15, 2012). "Deadpool Game Announced, No Platforms Given". I made sure to capture all my good sides, so I made my game a third-person action-shooter. (Yep, you get to look at my heinie.)

Armed with guns, katanas, and an unhealthy love for chimichangas, Deadpool pokes fun at videogame clichés and tropes almost as much as he pokes bad guys with sharp objects. It’s pretty obvious that Deadpool’s writers had a blast bringing this character into interactive 3D; he regularly has arguments with the voices in his head, and at one point can hop on word bubbles emanating from his diseased mind to cross a toxic river. At one point, you can even instigate a creepy stalker situation between a dialogue tree option and yourself. It’s pretty inventive, clever stuff that’s made even more enjoyable by Nolan North’s very enthusiastic delivery as the voice of Deadpool. Peter Della Penna revealed later in a press release that Daniel Way had written the story for the game, bringing his signature Deadpool humor to the title. According to Penna, "we weren't actually planning on making a Deadpool game. But, Deadpool came by the studio one day, said he was taking over, and that if I didn't hire Marvel writer Daniel Way pronto and make the most amazing Deadpool video game, he'd break both of our arms and beat us to death with them.
