Like the Ring RTC1000, its designers have also thought of where to store your valve caps when you’re inflating, and have included a little stand. Each of the inflators tested here has a gauge that gives you an instant readout that lets you know whether the tyre needs pumping. To use them, simply remove the dust cap from the valve on the tyre and push the end of the air hose over it, before pressing or releasing any catch to clamp it in place. Petrol station tyre inflators have pressure gauges, too, but these aren’t always accurate so it’s best to test using your own equipment. It’s noisy, dishing out 77dB in operation. And the pressure gauge can be difficult to read since, because it goes up to 250psi, that crucial 0 to 60psi zone is crammed into the first quarter of the dial. However, it pumped up our test tyre from 20 to 30psi in just under two-and-a-half minutes, with no fuss or faff. It’s a shame that the supplied accessories are so basic – just a ball inflator and two adaptors for inflatable toys – still, if you’re looking to spend as little as possible, then the Storm Force Mini does the job. Rechargeable tyre inflators can be extremely useful when on the move, as they're completely portable and can be used anywhere. The pressure is usually shown in two formats: bar and psi. There are typically two sets of these. The lowest is for normal use, but you may well see another set of higher pressures for when the car is heavily loaded, increasing the weight that’s pushing down on the tyres.

Almost all bikes now use Presta valves and a suitable adapter is included with the EasyPump. Unfortunately, it’s extremely inconvenient and cumbersome to use, since the adapter has to be screwed on to the valve. We never managed to get it to fit 100% tight or sit perfectly on the valve, which is just annoying! To ensure a good connection, it had to be screwed on firmly, but doing so caused a different problem altogether: applying too much force to the valve made the valve itself twist, breaking the seal of our tubeless setup and springing a leak. The analogue scale goes from 0psi-100psi, with around a centimetre between each increment of 10psi. That means that the difference between, say, 30psi and 32psi is just a couple of millimetres, making it a tad difficult to know exactly how much pressure you’re putting into your tyres — an issue exacerbated by the fact that the machine moves around a lot as it inflates. The inflator sits on four rubber feet to prevent it scuttling around your driveway, while the air hose wraps snugly beneath the device. The same can’t be said for the 12V connector, though, which must be wrapped around your hand and cable tied before it can be reinserted into the inflator. However, it completed our 22psi - 32psi test in comfortably under two minutes (around 1 minute and 50 seconds), meaning that it doesn’t make inflating your tyres into too much more of a chore than it already is. While there are plenty out there, one of the best is Halfords' rechargeable inflator, which features a max pressure of 120psi as well as an auto cut-off function.

The premium hose has textile cover and a threaded metal coupler, small enough to also reach valves in narrow spaces. The attachable 24-cm hose is rotatable 360°. Despite its smaller size, the Ring performed well, inflating the tyre faster than some of the larger models in this test. The Ring also retains a leisure inflator/deflator and is fitted with a Deflate button. We were also a fan of the foolproof knob and display set-up, and the smart carrying bag. This product carries a full 3 year manufacturers warranty covering both faulty materials and faulty workmanship, it does not cover general wear and tear or damage, batteries, blades, bulbs and other consumables. In the unlikely event of a fault the item returned is subject to fair wear & tear and must not have been used beyond the scope of it's design. Please note that cordless products will normally have a shorter warranty of just 1 Year for the battery and or charger supplied. Same comments apply as with the Makita inflator: someone at these huge, technically clever companies can surely come up with a better system than screw-on brass adapters.
Halfords claims that the inflator can pump an R13 tyre (13 inches in diameter) from flat to 30psi in three minutes, thanks to a flow rate of between 28 and 30 litres per minute. While that might sound good, there are very few modern cars that use R13s — even the tiny Smart ForTwo uses 15-inch tyres. As of 2021 Bosch has licensed PowerForAll to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.
