About this deal

My first impressions were excellent as this purifier is lightweight (under 4 lbs!), portable, and so easy to set up. The purifier was pretty much ready to go, right out of the box. With one of the two pre-filters already in place, all I had to do was slot the top (white) section of the unit on and turn it to secure the catches. After plugging it in (and reading the manual), I pressed the top center circle to start the purifier.

part filtration system: captures 99% of common airborne PM 2.5 pollutants (allergens, odors, smoke, mold spores, dust mites, pet dander The Shark 3-in-1 Air Purifier, Heater and Fan is a great alternative to the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde HP09, coming in at a fraction of the price. In addition, there's no accompanying app, which may just suit those looking for a more simple unit.Because our filter is crib-side and is audible outside the room (on the top setting), I tested the decibel levels. From a meter away it was just 38 on high and 15 on low. This was lower than Blueair’s measurements of 46 decibels on high (the sound of a library) and 17 on low. Put simply, there’s no need to worry about using this filter beside a crib. On the standard Everyday setting, the Blue Pure 411 Auto is quiet, measuring just 35dB on the sound meter. In Night mode, its gentle hum is barely noticeable, registering 29dB; chances are, your own breathing will be louder. As expected, the unit is louder in Boost mode at 55dB, but still no noisier than most fans I’ve encountered. Maintenance is super easy, too; the fabric pre-filter can be vacuumed and machine washed. It removes easily –simply twist off the top white section, undo the velcro and slide the fabric from the filter. From here you can also remove the main filter by sliding it off the inner structure. The Blueair Blue Pure 411 Auto arrives set up and ready to go out of the box. All I had to do was familiarize myself with the controls, which didn’t take long since there’s just one button and four settings. The air quality light was showing blue at first, but just one spray from a can of anti-perspirant deodorant in the area above the purifier, saw it change to orange within a few seconds. This tells me that the air quality sensors are doing their job.

A fan that circulates air, or a portable air conditioning unit that actively lowers the temperature, would be the better way to cool the air. Do air purifiers remove smells? AHAM certified room size is the size of room in which the air purifier can provide a full five air changes per hour. Therefore refreshing all of the air in the room through its filters once every twelve minutes. This is more relevant than 'maximum' room size which does not reflect an air purifiers genuine effective capability. Always be sure to only use the 'AHAM certified' room size for true comparison purposes.Yes – air purifiers come with carbon filters that remove the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that cause smells. These could be cooking odors, scented candles or aerosols. We found that it does have a number of small flaws in terms of response times and fan speeds though, and the performance will vary depending on the room size. A compact cylinder made of a choice of colourful plastics, the Blue Pure 411 is beautifully simple. It stands just 42.5cm tall and has a diameter of 20cm. It's among the simplest and most compact air purifiers you can get. Aside from the hefty price, our only other (slight) criticism of the Dyson Hot+Cool Formaldehyde is that if you want it to automatically switch on when the unit detects changes in the air, you'll have to remember to put in Auto mode.

When you're choosing the best air purifier for your home, there are a few key things to consider before you buy.I was testing the unit in spring, when the pollen was affecting my husband's hay fever. As such, I kept the Blueair purifier running on auto the whole time, switching to Night mode at bed time. On several occasions I noticed the air quality light change from blue to orange, as well as red; the unit increased the speed accordingly, which was reassuring. But I’d use the Everyday mode in winter, when there are fewer contaminants that might irritae. For bedrooms, hallways, front rooms, parlours and anywhere else you're not setting fire to stuff the Blue Pure 411 seems to do a perfectly good job. The maximum room size recommended by Blueair is 15 m sq which, understandably, is on the small size. IN terms of power consumption, having been on for four hours on the Everyday setting, the air purifier used only 0.008kWh of electricity, which is so low you’ll barely notice a change in your electricity bill. In the UK, this is less than 2p per 24 hours of continual use at this setting (based on an electricity price of 35p per kWh). In the US, the cost would be less than 1 cent for a 24-hour period (based on an electricity price of 20c per kWh). Note that prices vary between states and suppliers, so you may need to do your own calculations. Either way, the Blue Pure 411 Auto air purifier isn't an appliance that guzzles energy.

Controls are pretty simple too. They are as follows: one button on the top that you push to cycle the Blue Pure 411 between its three power settings. And that's it. No apps, no displays, no flashing lights apart from a red one that tells you when to change the filter. It's very lagom, as the Swedes say. Or do I mean hyyge? It's simple and minimalist is what I am saying. We keep the purifier on the highest setting as it’s an excellent white noise machine. The Blueair not only helps to soothe our baby to sleep, it also drowns out the noise of the wolf that lives next door. That’s right, we have a wolf hybrid neighbor who howls for a large part of the night (and day). Without the air filter, I’m constantly woken up with spiked adrenaline (not awesome in pregnancy). With the air purifier, I sleep right through the howling. A broadcaster, raconteur and public speaker, Duncan used to be on telly loads, but an unfortunate incident put a stop to that, so he now largely contents himself with telling people, "I used to be on the TV, you know." This relatively small air purifier is ideal for small bedrooms, offices, dorm rooms, and nurseries. My experience with the Blueair Blue Pure 411 Air Purifier Unlike many filters, the Blueair Blue Pure 411 comes with a polypropylene filter that can be easily replaced and recycled. Because the pre-filter is external, though, you can easily remove and wash this, meaning it never needs replacing. And if you keep the pre-filter in good shape, with regular vacuuming and cleaning, this will help extend the life of the 2 nd and 3 rd stage filters, helping to further save resources. As for those wildfires, it will be interesting to see how this filter performs if we get a lot of smoke again like 2020. Subjectively, it performed well in 2021, keeping our indoor air clear on the smokiest days. I didn’t have an air quality monitor at the time, however, though I do plan on acquiring one this summer. If/when I get readings, I’ll update this post with results. Capacity: small to medium rooms between 100 sq. ft. and 175 sq. ft. (AHAM rated at 161 sq. ft) / 120 cubic ft/min Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) In addition to the smokey room test, we also evaluate the unit's CADR or clean air delivery rate. While many companies provide this information in a single number, the Blueair Blue Pure 411 breaks it up into three critical categories of air contamination — these are smoke, dust, and pollen. The 411's CADRs are about average for the class at 105 (Smoke), 120 (Dust), and 120 (Pollen). Noise Unless the air purifier has been specifically designed to purify and cool the air – the Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact, for example – the model will not cool the air. But, of course, how well the air in a room is purified – or the room temperature adjusted – will depend on the size of the room. For example, the LG PuriCare AeroTower Air Purifying Fan with True HEPA and UVnano LED can purify a room size of up to 818sq ft, whereas the Blueair Blue Pure 411 Auto is suitable for a room size of up to 441sq ft. Opt for an air purifier that isn't suitable for use in your room will mean that it ultimately won't be able to deliver optimum performance.
