I don't know exactly what led me to read Bloom, the wonderful new graphic novel by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau, especially considering that I had read exactly one graphic novel before this, and it didn't quite make an impact on me. But something about this story of friendship, love, family, and baking captured my attention, and it has definitely piqued my interest in reading more graphic novels in the future.

If you’d asked him if ghosts were real before he found himself face-to-face with one, Mateo wouldn’t have even considered it. But now, confronted with the nearly undeniable presence of Guillermo, he’s having second thoughts. Having spent his afterlife guiding migrants to safety, Guillermo knows things about the Sonoran Desert far beyond what could be explained by a mere hallucination. But even as Mateo forms an uneasy partnership with Guillermo, survival is still uncertain. Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Ari wants so badly to leave his hometown but he can't afford university and his music dreams start to look unlikely. He's left wondering what to do with the rest of his life, while resenting working at the bakery. Hector is this to a lesser extent, especially after his grandmother dies and he ended a relationship. More than half a century later, even though Abe had married and had children and grandchildren, Emma was still not over her love for him, and it was the actual reason why she fell for Jacob. But when she tries to call Abe on the road during A Map of Days, he angrily tells her she is interrupting dinner and that she shouldn't have called before hanging up, hurting her feelings. However, she tells Jacob in The Conference of the Birds that she needed to hear it, so she could finally let him go. I could not get enough of this beautifully executed— both visually AND in written word— queer lovvveeeee story!! Being queer — and, more specifically, being gender queer — means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. But most of us have struggled with our identity and how we outwardly project ourselves to others at some point or another. The "Pasteur" is pursued by ships of the Temples of Transcendent Evolution, a fringe political/religious group that believes the Mycora are divine, investing large sums of money in researching them. Named after Louis Pasteur the French microbiologist and chemist, the ship is described as being very small and having an unusual external covering invented by Lehne called the t-balance.

Graphic novels may not be for everyone. Honestly, I might have thought I was one of those people until I read Bloom. It put a smile on my face and charmed me completely. Can you really ask for anything more from a book? When Becca transfers to a high school in an elite San Francisco suburb, she’s worried she’s not going to fit in. To her surprise, she’s immediately adopted by the most popular girls in school. At first glance, Marley, Arianna, and Mandy are perfect. But at a party under a full moon, Becca learns that they also have a big secret. Lumberjanesbegan as a celebration of female strength and friendship. It’s a corny, cheeky, cheerful comic book series that pops with colour and goofy humour. A campy, raucous ride for all ages.

Bloom | written by Kevin Panetta; illustrated by Savanna

Erin Tieng, a new resident of Stony Stream, is a recently hired paper delivery girl. While out delivering newspapers in the early hours of the morning of November 1, 1988, Erin meets Mac, KJ, and Tiffany, a group of friends and fellow paper girls who invite Erin to join them. For as long as she can remember, it’s been Robin and her mom against the world. Growing up as the only child of a single mother in Seoul, Korea, wasn’t always easy, but it has bonded them fiercely together.Or so she thinks. Spooky, sardonic, and secretly sincere, Anya’s Ghost is a wonderfully entertaining debut from author/artist Vera Brosgol. But everything changes when she meets Po, a foreign prince Graced with combat skills who is searching for the truth about his grandfather’s disappearance. When Katsa agrees to help him, she never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace—or about a terrible secret that could destroy them all. A connection begins to smolder . . . but will feelings of guilt and the mounting pressure of life outside of these adventures extinguish their spark before it catches fire? Emma is described to have white skin, sandy hair and green eyes. The first time Jacob and Emma met, he described her as "strikingly pretty." On the train in Hollow City, Jacob tells her that when they first met and he was sure she was about to slit his throat, a tiny part of him was thinking that "if this was the last face he'd ever see, at least it's a beautiful one." She has been described as beautiful by others on several occasions as well, unintentionally attracting the interest of men such as the Gypsy ventriloquist, to men as undesirable as a perverted wight who went as far as to try and kiss her. Emma also bears a resemblance to V, enough that Joseph initially thought she was V. Veel van het verhaal speelt zich af in de bakkerij.

Bloom (2019) (Comic Book) - TV Tropes Bloom (2019) (Comic Book) - TV Tropes

So when a vacation to visit friends in Huntsville, Alabama, unexpectedly becomes a permanent relocation—following her mother’s announcement that she’s getting married—Robin is devastated. Now that high school is over, Ari is dying to move to the big city with his ultra-hip band?if he can just persuade his dad to let him quit his job at their struggling family bakery. Though he loved working there as a kid, Ari cannot fathom a life wasting away over rising dough and hot ovens. But while interviewing candidates for his replacement, Ari meets Hector, an easygoing guy who loves baking as much as Ari wants to escape it. As they become closer over batches of bread, love is ready to bloom . . . that is, if Ari doesn?t ruin everything.Writer Kevin Panetta and artist Savanna Ganucheau concoct a delicious recipe of intricately illustrated baking scenes and blushing young love, in which the choices we make can have terrible consequences, but the people who love us can help us grow. In a collection of essays and personal mini-comics that span eight years of his young adult life, author-illustrator ND Stevenson charts the highs and lows of being a creative human in the world.

The book ends almost thirteen years later, with a description of how the captain of the Pasteur has been diagnosed with a terminal disease and requests that Strasheim (now a successful media magnate) be his witness as he joins the Mycora. [2] Characters [ edit ] Gayngst: Pointedly averted, it seems like everyone knows both Ari and Hector are gay and homophobia plays no role in the story. Ostensibly this is a romance between two young men (18 or 19?). Although nothing romantic really happens until about two-thirds of the way through the book.
