About this deal

The Baratza Encore takes less than 1 minute to assemble, making it perfect for beginners or anyone who wants an easy-to-use coffee grinder at home. The shortcomings of the user experience aspect are static’s fault. The grounds container has a weak spot for static, making it a messy and annoying experience to deal with. You’ll need to use the Ross Droplet Technique that James Hoffmann made popular. 💡 Beating static ????

The Baratza Encore uses a combination of gear and electronic speed reduction to control the rotation of the burr between 405 to 495 RPM. This slow speed reduces heat, noise, and static generation in the grinder and ensures beans feed smoothly into the burrs. Quality parts you can trust On the Encore’s side is a 2-way on/off switch, and on the front is a pulse grinding button. There are no timers or dose controlling features. To adjust the grind size, all you have to do is twist the hopper to one of the 40 graduated markings (more on that below).

Buy the Encore if you want a straightforward, budget-friendly burr grinder for excellent coffee and are not overly concerned about espresso quality. For a faster and more uniform grind, you can upgrade the Baratza Encore rather than replace it. Upgrading entails swapping out its M3 burr for the better-performing M2 burr found in the Virtuoso+: The Encore’s M3 burr is on the left, the Virtuoso+ M2 burr on the right. Notice the difference in the length of the blades, and the overall profile. (Photo by skippdaddy of home-barista.com) Baratza is a highly respected manufacturer of top burr coffee grinders, and this is a well-made grinder. However, an affordable all-purpose grinder inevitably requires some sacrifices – in this case, plastic rather than metal in the build. The outer case, bean hopper, grounds catch bin, and dosing cup are all plastic. Notably, the Encore ESP has a metal adjustment collar, while it’s plastic on the Encore original. Since the grinder works at a rather low RPM (only 550) and mostly handles grinds in the coarse to medium-range, you shouldn’t worry about lifespan. Speed Control: With unique speed control, the Encore uses a combination of gear and electronic speed reduction to control the rotation of the burr to 450 RPM. The electronic speed controller is adjustable from 405 to 495 RPM in the event that specific user conditions require modification of the speed. This slow speed reduces heat, noise, and static generation in the grinder. It also ensures that the beans feed smoothly into the burrs.

Espresso is generally the finest grind of coffee. You make espresso with a fancy machine which heats water perfectly, pressurizes it through a basket, and usually steams milk too. One point I need to make in this Baratza Encore review is that this isn’t really the grinder for that, according to every source I consulted. We repeat: Baratza Encore + Espresso don’t really go together. Hopper extender: An extension that can add 9 oz. of capacity to the existing 8 oz. bean hopper. Several extenders can be added to get to the capacity you need. That said, we’ve never *really* tried to make espresso with the Baratza Encore. Maybe it does work well. But from our experience, the grind size adjustments are more for the journey from AeroPress (approaching-espresso-fine) to french press (rather coarse). This grinder isn’t really for you to dial in the perfect and specific extraction for your precious latte, as the “Baratza Encore espresso setting” simply doesn’t exist. We Make Pour Over, AeroPress, and Cold Brew Coffee
