You can also call on the might of the new Terminators. Clad in ancient armour that has seen many, many battles, these warriors will form the bulwark of your force. I really like that the classic Terminator style has been retained for these miniatures and they have simply been updated in terms of scale to match the Primaris. Barbgaunts are a new unit of artillery beasts. Each one is a symbiote of a gaunt and a symbiotic artillery beast. The ‘Biocannon’ fires short range, frag missile-like suppressive fire. In the absence of the flowing robes that usually mark members of the Librarium, our psychic champion has opted for plenty of runic ornamentations on his Terminator armour. He’s also sporting the classic horned skull icon, worn by Librarians since the days of Rogue Trader. Lieutenant with Combi-flamer Warhammer 40,000 Leviathan is, without doubt, the most impressive Warhammer release of the last few years.

Second-to-last for the Space Marine side of the box, we arrive at the Infernus squad. Note that you get two of these sprues to make a total of 10 miniatures. There’s a slight build variation on one of the minis, too, so not all of them will look the same.ToP Tip: Visual comparison of all 61 Contrast, 23 Xpress Colors, 89 Speedpaints & 36 Dipping Inks 4.2k views | posted on June 17, 2023

Leviathan is just the beginning for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. There’ll be a brisk pace of releases following hot on the heals of the launch set. First up, the Lieutenant in Phobos Armour. The Primaris Lieutenant memes will run wild with this guy – who has reinforced his own armour with the chitins of slain Tyranids. Similar to several other Primaris Lieutenants in Phobos Armour, but appropriately updated to the new edition with his extra Tyranid-y bits, this guy cuts an impressive figure. If you’re a big fan of Space Marines (like me) then you’ll still probably be pretty happy with these guys. There’s something fun about painting Space Marine armour and getting those highlights looking awesome. If, however, you’re new to Warhammer or aren’t as much of a big Space Marine fan, you may be a touch disappointed with these ones – but not much. Ballistus Dreadnought The miniatures are divided into 25 elite, battle-hardened Space Marines – the Imperium’s ultimate defenders against innumerable horrors – and a seething swarm of 47 ravenous Tyranids that desire nothing more than to consume all the biomass in the galaxy. This humongous box contains 72 new miniatures split between the Space Marines and the Tyranids. The Emperor’s Angels of Death are represented by an indomitable Captain in Terminator Armour, aLibrarian in Terminator Armour, aPrimaris Lieutenant in Phobos Armour, an Apothecary Biologis, five immense Terminators, five Sternguard, a sharpshootingBallistus Dreadnought, and 10 pyreblaster-toting Infernus Marines.

Overview

Personally, my issue with the Psychophage are its teeth. You can’t quite make them out in the image above, but inside its mandibles the unit is sculpted as having a fang-filled maw. However, these fangs are very regular and linear, and don’t look very realistic – though I recognise the irony in describing part of a model of an alien “unrealistic”. This jars with the largely irregular, much more “natural” (again, I get it) aspects of its tentacles, spines and carapace. The new set is going to be the place to get your hands on the Rulebook alongside a host of new miniatures for both the Space Marines and Tyranids of Warhammer 40,000. When the reveals dropped, I was immediately taken by the new Tyranid miniatures. I've always flirted with the idea of collecting an army of deadly, ravening aliens and this boxed set might just push me over the edge. New Tyranid Miniatures As the name suggests, Von Ryan’s Leapers are intended to be an agile, nimble unit, and these lithe, sinewy monsters capture the essence of that role with ease. Each is posed as if in mid-strike, natural weapons raised or Cthulhu-esque mouth-limbs reaching for a target. Again, they’re gross, but absolutely gorgeous.

A brilliant set of new Space Marines for those who enjoy their Power Armour in a variety of different flavours. All in all, a fairly hefty collection of miniatures that will be handy for battling the Tyranids on the tabletop as part of the Leviathan boxed set. I like this fellow a lot more now that we've seen it in miniature form. I wasn't overly fussed by the miniature in the trailer but I really like what they've done here, especially with the runic marks etched into the Terminator armour. A great miniature for those that want to practise their object source lighting. We also have somewhat of a medic that might be quite handy when it comes to battling in the grimdark future. Clad in Gravis armour, this fellow has been tasked with watching over his fellow Battle-Brothers but also retrieving biological remains so that the Space Marines can get the upper hand on their enemies. A Space Marine Librarian in Terminator armor. The mustache gives off a strong state police trooper vibe that makes me smile. The Hive Mind has imbued this particular biomorph with a hunger for enemy psykers, its digestive tract somehow able to metabolise psychic lifeforms into psychocorrosive ash, which it projects forward in blistering torrents. Read more about the Tyranid side of the box here:Gone are the slightly soft, retro aesthetic of the old Termagants. In their place are a devilish deluge of teeth, claws and other spikey bits. What’s more, with every Termagant being around 4 components a piece, these things go together with exceptional speed and ease. They also retain a great deal of detail, so there has been no sacrifice in quality for quantity. Not only was this the first Terminator I’ve ever painted, but this is also the first time I’ve ever painted the little shields some marines have (I think the term is “ tilting plates“) with anything more than flat colors. I’ve always been intimidated by the intricate designs I’ve seen on other people’s marines, but decided to have a go at it with this model. Turns out, it’s way easier than I expected, and totally worth the extra effort. The Ballistus Dreadnought is built from the powerful Redemptor chassis, but it shares a loadout with Dreadnoughts from an earlier era. The combination of a twin-linked lascannon and missile launcher is a Space Marine classic, brought into the modern age just in time to blow holes in the larger Tyranid monsters.
