About this deal

Conceptually, this book also duplicates the core ideas that give both Transformersand GI Joetheir foundations — these characters are part of warring groups that are at war. Why are they at war? Doesn’t matter! Not really. The point is they hate each other and have to fight. One is good, the other bad (probably), and that’s all you need to know. In that way, Void Rivals #1is a major success, capturing the spirit of the material that not only inspired it, but is also now giving it a commercial reason for existing. Void Rivals ' status as the launch for the Energon Universe was kept secret for almost the entirety of the comic's promotion, with Kirkman only revealing its existence to retailers just before the first issue's FOC date. It would ultimately be leaked by Bleeding Cool a few days before release. Why this D&D actual play series featuring the voices of Geralt and FF16's Clive is going to be the next big thing

Void Rivals? What is Robert Kirkman’s Big Secret Universe in Void Rivals?

It’s an exciting wild card and a statement of intent that, whatever is coming next for the Transformers, and for G.I. Joe, it’s unlikely to be the same thing fans have seen before. We started talking to Hasbro about taking over the Transformers and the G.I. Joe license almost two years ago. IDW had those licenses for a good long time and served those brands very well, so we had to come up with something that was new and different. I thought that one of the best things that we could do is strip everything down to its core and establish a new beginning with these characters in the shared Energon universe, where they can interact in organic ways. There were a few intriguing deep cuts in #3, but if you're not au-fait with the intricacies of the lore then they'd be easy to miss. It makes sense - the comic has to establish a tone of its own without relying too heavily on the past, especially with Daniel Warren Johnson's Transformers launching next week. Ryan Cady and Andrea Mutti play around with this idea in their new series Haunt You to the End , a comic about a race against time to prove a place that’s known to be a hot bed for paranormal activity is the real deal. The story takes place in the 22 nd century, after the planet’s governments failed to prevent the “Hothouse Earth” scenario, forcing humanity to adapt to harsh atmospheric conditions. Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers book is very much Earth based and so you'll start to see how the G.I. Joe books will unfold from that. It's kind of Void Rivals leads to Transformers, Transformers leads to G.I. Joe.Canon Foreigner: Considering the comic is an original IP that shares a universe with the long-established Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises the entire original cast is this. By the time issue #1 was published, Skybound announced the series to be part of the Energon Universe, which combines new comics based on Transformers and G.I. Joe by Hasbro. [2] List of issues [ edit ] Issue Everyone Has Standards: Despite treating his son like shit, when Dulin is confronted with the idea of Darak being executed to keep the conspiracy a secret, he is visibly distressed and heartbroken by the situation. For as awful as their relationship is, Darak is still his son, and Dulin is tormented by the possibility of the greater good costing him his child. Cady does excellent work creating a high-stakes haunting with a sense of urgency. It’s as if the world has doomed a dark miracle to extinction. Shah’s desperate attempt to prove beyond a doubt the existence of ghosts sets up a lot of fun narrative traps for the story’s characters to fall into.

Void Rivals | Image Comics

He’s accompanied by a documentary filmmaker called Matt and a U.N. medical officer called Maddi, both skeptics that share a disdain for the excesses Shah parades around. Issue #1 concerns itself with introducing the reader to the cast. How haunted the island is and what manifests out of it is something will see from issue #2 onwards, it seems. Forever War: The Agorrians and Zertonians have been warring against one another for thousands upon thousands of years, long enough that the fact that they're the same species has been forgotten after being covered up by their governments. While I don't expect we'll get confirmation of this reveal before June, expect chatter – and speculation – around this "new shared universe" to only grow as we get closer to Void Rivals #1 releasing on Wednesday, the 14th of June, A new #1 from Robert Kirkman is probably as sure of an investment as one can get these days, but the added secret here could make Void Rivals #1 appealing to loads of new readers beyond traditional comic fans. And will sparks fly with O blivion Song star Jake Gyllenhaalso he can reunite the band by starring in the feature film version of Void Rivals? Stranger things have happened… Inquisitor: I have many dealings with many civilizations across the cosmos. My kind have made enemies.Void Rivals was already destined to be one of the biggest comic book releases of 2023, as it's the latest collaboration between Oblivion Song creators Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici. But it turns out that the first issue of Void Rivals is hiding a truly massive twist. This series isn't a standalone story, but rather is part of a shared universe that includes the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises. These two iconic Hasbro properties are making their way to Kirkman's Skybund Entertainment.
