Description

Apple filling –Place apples in a bowl. Sprinkle with flour, sugar and cinnamon, then pour over lemon juice. Toss, then spread out evenly in a1.5 litre/1.5 quart baking dish. I have the dry ingredients including flour all ready to go and whisked up – and then I realised my mistake.. In a separate bowl or stand mixer cream the room-temperature butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and egg and mix well. Add the dry ingredients and mix lightly until well mixed but still crumbly. For savory recipes, consider frying them slightly to serve alongside pork or even roasting the slices along with a roast. Recipe Suggestions The crumbly topping bakes up beautifully crisp but is not dry or doughy or overly sweet. It crumbles when you serve it–hence the name 😉– but it doesn’t disintegrate, there are chunks that hold together. Think chunky muesli/granola – like that. But softer. 🙂 Best apples for Apple Crumble

A brilliant combination of two great puddings - sponge and crumble - try reader Bridie Bannon's fruity traybake As per Nagi’s comment, I used half a cup of sugar in the crumble topping and it was plenty sweet enough. This is a reader favourite included by popular demand in my debut cookbook “Dinner”! THE Apple Crumble recipe Carefully add the apple slices to the boiling canning liquid and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are heated through. Be sure to stir gently, so that the apple slices don't fall apart. Remove the dough from the mixer bowl and divide into two pieces. Wrap in clingfilm and put in the freezer to chill for at least an hour.Process the jars in a water bath canner for 20 minutes for both pints and quarts. (Recipe is written for a 7-quart canner batch below 1000 feet in elevation, see notes for other batch sizes and elevations). Brilliant. And I’m sooo looking forward to having the leftovers for breakfast (it’s healthy, oats and apples, surely.. 🙂 ? ) To serve this fruit crumble slice serve pop it onto a plate and enjoy! Fabulous warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or equally good once completely cool. Delicious! How to store The best! Cooked this to take to son & daughter in law’s for Easter Sunday lunch today. Adjusted the recipe manually to account for less apples and it was perfect. Best topping ever, and not too sweet either. A mix of You could try substituting the egg in this recipe with ¼ cup of apple sauce which would complement the flavours but I haven't personally tested this. Can you freeze it?

The apple filling is not dry or watery. It is made ever so slightly jammy / syrupy with the addition of flour mixed with the usual sugar (plus cinnamon for fragrance). Just a bit of flour really makes a difference; and Place the pan in the oven and bake until the apples have softened a bit and started to release some liquid - about 10 minutes. Amazing! Doubed the recipe to bring to a dinner party for 20 adults. Made ahead and brought tray of apples and topping separately to combine just before putting in the oven. I like to use Granny Smith apples because the sweet-tart palette appeals to me. If you prefer not to have tartness, then feel free to use sweet red apples. Put just over half the mix (350gms) into the greased cake tin and press down until evenly spread out on the tin. The mix will feel like quite a thin layer in the tin thin but this is normal. Bake for about twelve minutes or until the base is starting to turn a light golden colour.

This moist and fruity cake is a great way to get kids to eat fruit, you may have trouble stopping them!
