About this deal

Taste-wise, the K-Max is also a bit more refined than the Jx. Most people won’t notice in daily use, but if you’re the kind of person who buys light roast coffee and is experimenting with water quality, you should be able to appreciate the difference.

For that price, the C2 is an impressive hand grinder. However, the S2C burr on the C3 is more valuable than its price tag suggests. You get a much more powerful and capable grinder for a small price increase (that still punches above its weight). If money is no object, and you’re primarily looking for a grinder for manual brewing, this is still a very solid choice.

The Chestnut C2 and your French press will become best friends. Your Moka pot and the C2, however, barely tolerate each other in the workplace. Yes, the Comandante C40 also produces tasty coffee across all brewing methods; however, it’s not a pleasant experience to use it for espresso. The K-Max on the other hand is a beast – it’s not much effort to grind a standard 18-gram dose in 35 seconds provided you have decent grip strength. And it offers a way better adjustment mechanism and smaller steps compared to the C40. Conclusion Timemore recently unveiled the Chestnut C3 grinder – meant as an improvement on the previous C2. The C3 comes with a higher price tag, and it’s worth asking if the cost is worth the upgrade. However, over the past few months, a number of issues have slowly gotten more and more annoying, to the point that combined they sent me looking for another grinder:

Fully loaded up to max in the bean chamber, the Timemore Chestnut C2 can hold around 22g of coffee. Need to grind more? Grind coffee in batches. The grinder weighs in at just over a pound: 470g. It measures 160cm tall with the crank arm in place, and is 60mm in diameter. At a pound, it’s not an ultra lightweight travel grinder, but it is light enough for all vacation travel. The Timemore C2 changes all this. It’s not much more expensive than the Hario Skerton Pro and the Porlex Mini while running circles around them in most aspects. To see if the TimeMore C2 coffee grinder is suitable to grind espresso, let’s see what how it performs on the factors listed above. The brand also points out that the burrs are made out of special “high nitrogen” steel that’s more durable. While this is a good idea, in theory, it doesn’t work well in daily use. The handle is on the shorter side, and the weight and shape of the grinder make itchallenging to hold it steadyon the counter. The most pressing question regarding manual grinders is obviously how it performs when it comes to particle distribution. One of the great joys of my job here at CoffeeGeek is that I get to discover and use exceptional products. For years and years, I was used to the idea that, if I wanted a quality hand grinder, I had to go with something from Orphan Espresso and their huge and heavy Lido models. The OE Lido does set a high bar on quality output, but it’s not exactly a good travel solution.

But at the end of the day, it takes time to grind coffee beans — even for a speedy grinder like the C2. But the hype isn’t everything. Millions of people love McDonald’s coffee. Millions don’t. So how do you know the C2 is worth the hype? If budget is the only consideration, then the C2 is a great buy. However, the C3 improves on the C2 in nearly every way while still being affordable. I’d recommend the C3 if you want excellent grind consistency and more flavorful coffee from an accessible, low-cost manual grinder.

The C3 is still a cheap grinder, so the company had to make a few compromises – this being the most noticeable. Also, remember that the much more expensive Comandante has some plastic internally. Grinding with the Timemore Chestnut C2 is a pleasant experience. And the noise is very low. You can grind coffee whenever you want at midnight or in the early morning without waking anyone up. Is it easy to clean? I have no qualms declaring that, together with 1Zpresso Jx, this is one of the fastest hand grinders on the market. Despite its more modest appearance, it’s a lot faster than Lido 3 and the Comandante. Consistent enough By getting the right, consistent grind size, you can craft brew recipes to your exact preferences. You can experiment with different variables.

In terms of build and aesthetics, very little has changed between the C2 and the C3. The exterior, handle, and inner mechanics are all the same. Its 45 mm overall diameter is pretty comfortable for most hand sizes. The only difference is that the dial indica

It emphasizes balance and nuance when it comes to drip coffee and espresso. It’s a lovely flavor profile. Timemore is a relatively new Chinese coffee company that makes products aimed at the manual brewing segment.
