Home is one of the final floors in The Binding of Isaac, alongside the Chest, the Dark Room, The Void, and the Corpse. It was added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance, and acts as Isaac's house in his imagination. I'm starting to become a little disillusioned with upcoming releases by unknown or new-to-me authors. THE BINDING has an excellent marketing campaign, a gorgeous cover, and was a book I wanted to get into my hands, desperately, due to a (inaccurate) comparison to a book I love. However, for this reader, the insides don't match the outsides. The Binding Room is part of the Inspector Anjelica Henley series (Book #2). This book can be read as a standalone, however, I would not recommend it. The JigSaw Man laid so much foundation, I promise you, you do not want to miss out on it anyway. The binding room is an intense thriller with a side of police procedural. Typically I avoid police procedurals but recently I have enjoyed them especially if they are well written. How he came to be in this state and why his family acted toward him as they did and why a wealthy young man named Lucian Darnay, visiting his uncle on a neighboring farm, disquiets him so much—all these elements were teeming with gothic mystery which added to the tension and suspense and made me feel for Emmett Farmer. Eventually, Emmett is sent away to train as a book binder, something he feels is a punishment. This is where the story really took off for me as Emmett trains with an old woman named Seredith who lives out in the marshes and whom people think of as a witch. After a flash of static briefly covering the entire screen, Isaac wakes up again, presumably at night since Home is considerably darker. At this point, when exiting Mom's room and walking down the left corridor, a grey light can be seen through the bottom-right door. The source of this light is the TV in the living room, which is now turned on but only emits static. Stepping on the cross in the living room's carpet will begin the battle against Home's first boss, Dogma.

Collins infused her fictional binders with the additional ability to weave secrets and memories into their end papers, which freed individuals from the burdens of their guilt and fears. But with these life-altering abilities comes the fear of the other and the lurking allure of abusing this bestowed gift.

Uniquely, using Undefined in Home is impossible, despite an error room existing for this floor; any attempts to trigger the effect result in nothing happening. I am happy to announce there was no sophomore slump with this addition to the series. Henley is still having problems emotionally from their last case and the loss of her mother. Her marriage is still in flux, and I still do not know how that will turn out in future books. Her entire team has become more fully fleshed and I care for them all with all their quirks and differences. This book does have several very dark and graphically disturbing scenes, but it is about sadistic torture murders and Ms. Matheson’s first book was the same, so I was expecting it. The investigative plot was well paced with several twists throughout that keeps you reading with a major twist right before the end.Stars - This was a hard decision but I am not convinced we needed the horrific descriptions of the painful memories as it was essentially a romance. For me it would have been enough to hint at the horror and then move on. The action opens with a chilling scene in which a man and a woman seem to be struggling with someone they are attempting to tie down and appear to be torturing. At one point, one of them states: “I told you that he had the devil inside of him.” This grisly sequence will play a big role throughout the case that Henley and her team will soon be working on --- a case unlike any they have ever been a part of before.
