Modes work well enough, but you have to remember to handle them manually. With the Ring Spotlight Cam, you can choose whether it records based on the state of your Ring Alarm; the Arlo system provides geolocation for mode changes. I connected my phone to my computer, and I can move everything to my computer EXCEPT these videos because they won't even show when I open my media folder on my computer. So if they won't play on my phone, I can't move them to my computer, and the app deletes them. What good are they? I have never owned a Eufy cam so bear with me. First question, is the S40 continuous 24hr recording or only when triggered and then records 60 second clips? We put the camera through heavy testing in a short period of time for this review, but located it in a position that easily achieved two hours of sunlight a day. The result was that our camera didn’t require charging manually at all during this time. However, battery life will depend on how often motion is detected, how many times the live feed is viewed, if the siren is triggered, and the number of times the two-way microphone and speaker are engaged.For the most part, you’ll want the Eufy SoloCam S40 to run automatically to capture video, and for this you’ll need to set up motion detection. Out of the box, I didn’t find the camera sensitive enough: it would trigger an alert if I started behind the camera and walked away from it. I wouldn’t receive an alert if I started from further away and walked towards the camera, either. Adjusting the motion detection sensitivity was enough to fix this. Every Detail Matters: See the difference with 2K resolution and keep an eye on what’s happening outside with more clarity than ever before. I left the Arlo camera installed to compare them. The S40 is installed a few inches away from the Arlo and on the outside of the eave (for sunlight). The Arlo remains under the eave. When I go out to the driveway and get into my car, Arlo says it detected a person, then a vehicle. S40 has ABSOLUTELY NO NOTIFICATIONS (or recording). Arlo shows me getting in my car and leaving, S40 seems completely un-interested. This has been the case for EVERY time I've left my home! I had family visit last week - they arrived in the driveway, got out, walked around, etc. and the S40 NEVER recorded a SECOND of video.

To test how good the camera was, I captured some test footage at different times. The camera’s 130-degree field of view is capable of capturing video at a 2K resolution, which meant that it could easily cover most of my garden easily. In terms of the video, the clarity and level of detail captured by the S40 in its recordings is quite impressive. The spotlight can be set to detect motion at night and it is even possible to adjust the brightness to meet the lightning conditions of your area.seconds*. That’s all the time it takes for SoloCam to alert you when it detects someone approaching your home. I really wanted to like this camera, as it stored locally and made me believe that even if there was spotty connectivity to my WiFi any event would still be locally recorded and I could get to it. Motion detection pales in comparison to Arlo. I know it only does "human" and "other" (I have all motion turned on), HOWEVER I get many many "person detected" notifications when there's no person in sight. With 8GB of built-in storage, the eufy SoloCam S40 can hold up to 30 days of video clips – where each clip is 10 seconds long and based on 30 events a day. I've removed/re-added my detection zone a couple of times; doesn't seem to make a difference AND it catches people OUTSIDE of the zone. In fact, it's infuriating that it will "spot a person" on the sidewalk (outside the zone) but NOT myself or anyone else ON the driveway (IN the zone).
