About this deal

Cyfeiriodd eto at yr esiampl hon yn 2008, pan ddywedodd fod Iesu wedi dangos yn glir fod ‘gwir hapusrwydd a bodlonrwydd dynol i’w cael wrth roi yn hytrach na derbyn; wrth wasanaethu yn hytrach na chael ein gwasanaethu'. Meddai: 'Yn sicr, gallwn fod yn ddiolchgar fod cynifer ohonom, dwy fil o flynyddoedd wedi geni’r Iesu, yn parhau i gael ein hysbrydoli gan ei fywyd a’i neges, a chael ynddo ffynhonnell o gryfder a dewrder.’ Her Majesty also alluded to the current problems in the Middle East saying that the world is now experiencing “terrible suffering on an unprecedented scale”. Yn ei hareithiau, yn arbennig adeg y Nadolig, bu i’r Frenhines roi sylw cynyddol i’w ffydd Gristnogol. Byddai’n dychwelyd yn aml at thema gwasanaeth, ac yn hyn o beth yr oedd bywyd Iesu yn batrwm ar gyfer ei bywyd personol.

It’s no secret that the Queen’s faith in Jesus Christ was of central importance to her. But very little has been written about the particular character of her Christian commitment, or how it fuelled her vision for her role, the nation, and the Commonwealth. As a constitutional monarch, the nature of Queen Elizabeth II’s role dictated she not offer opinions. No one knew which political party she supported, or which was her favourite of the 15 prime ministers who served during her reign, or whether she was pro-Brexit or pro-Remain. So it’s significant that in her 70-year reign, Her Majesty only wrote one foreword. The book was published by the Bible Society for her 90th birthday celebrations in 2016, and it was titled The Servant Queen and the King She Serves.

In this fresh analysis, Mark Greene, co-author of The Servant Queen and the King she Serves, looks in depth at what the Queen herself says about her faith. What emerges is a compelling picture of a global stateswoman whose private and public lives have been shaped by the Bible and her relationship with Jesus – whose life of sacrifice, service, and compassion is the inspiration and model for hers. Her eyes,” he wrote, “sparkled and she bubbled over with enthusiasm. . . . ‘I wish you had!’ she exclaimed. ‘That is my favourite story.’” Again, it’s hard to imagine two more different people—a cripple for 38 years with no one to help him and a queen for decades with scores of servants. But he needed to hear Jesus’s words of healing and salvation, and so did she. The wise men of old followed a star; modern man has built one. But unless the message of this new star is the same as theirs our wisdom will count for nought.’ In this fresh analysis, Mark Greene, co-author of The Servant Queen and the King she Serves, looks in depth at what the Queen herself said about her faith. What emerges is a compelling picture of a global stateswoman whose private and public lives were shaped by the Bible and her relationship with Jesus – whose life of sacrifice, service, and compassion was the inspiration and model for hers. It is because of Christ’s example that we are given courage to live in line with the principles he teaches:It is an idea that belongs to neither the left nor the right. It is rooted in the Queen’s understanding of God’s concern for all human beings, of the example of ‘the child who was born at Christmas with a love that came to embrace the whole world’ (1995). And it is underpinned by the Queen’s biblical understanding of the equality of all human beings under God, and of the calling of all Christians to seek to love all people. Where does all that come from – the clarity of vision, the stamina, the steadfastness in duty and care? What has shaped and sustained this remarkable stateswoman? While we know very little about what she thinks about a whole host of issues, she has been extraordinarily clear about where her guiding principles come from – though the majority of her biographers have rarely paid serious attention to her words. Dywedodd ‘Pwyslais mawr Crist oedd yr angen i roi nod ymarferol i ysbrydolrwydd’, gan ychwanegu: 'I mi mae dysgeidiaeth Crist a'm hatebolrwydd personol fy hun gerbron Duw yn cynnig fframwaith sy’n rhoi arweiniad i’m bywyd. Fel cynifer ohonoch, yr wyf wedi canfod cysur mawr mewn cyfnodau anodd yng ngeiriau ac esiampl Crist.

It’s no secret that the Queen’s faith in Jesus Christ is of central importance to her. But very little has been written about the particular character of her Christian commitment, or how it has fuelled her vision for her role, the nation, and the Commonwealth. It is because Christ is ‘the Prince of Peace’ (Isaiah 9:6) that we should ‘work to heal old wounds and to abandon prejudice and suspicion’ (1984).In sum, one of the reasons the Queen follows Christ is because he so clearly and consistently practices what he preaches. In him, word and deed match perfectly. He calls us to do the same. And so, in her speeches to the nation, the Queen echoes his call, encouraging every person to see that they have both a responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to the national good.
