And if you’re feeling lazy you can enlist the help of the blender’s self-clean function. Simply pop a couple of cups of warm, soapy water into the blender jug, tap the self-clean button and the blender spins the blade, cleaning most of the bits around the base of the blade and jug. I did find I needed to finish cleaning the jug by hand, though, so it isn’t 100% effective. Sage The 3X Bluicer Pro review: Verdict Some can be used for other food preparation tasks, such as mincing, coffee grinding and making nut butters Having said that, it’s certainly not something I would recommend if you’re just dipping your toes into the world of juicing or blending. If you’re more concerned with making juice than smoothies, the Sage Nutri Juicer is a sensible alternative that’s also a good bit cheaper, while for smoothie lovers, could go for the Ninja Multi-Serve instead. We assessed how easy each pulp container was to empty and how easy it was to handwash, using any supplied cleaning brushes when doing so.

These are sometimes also called fast juicers. They shred ingredients with a fast-spinning blade surrounded by a sieve. The centrifugal force pushes food through the sieve, separating the juice and pulp. Due to the blending technique with a whipping disk rather than a grinder at the end of a chute, it’s best for making smoothies rather than juice. The blades can’t quite grind the fruit and veg small enough to liquidise the contents. The Sage Nutri Juicer Plus has a pleasant, substantial feel to it, without actually being too heavy. Its grey plastic details, pulp bin and plunger complement the round stainless-steel body and feed chute. The transparent lid and bowl let you observe the machine’s centrifugal process.

The easiest way to extract every drop of flavour from your fruit and veg, with a fantastic end result every time

Our testing found that on average, the best juicers get 15% more juice out of the fruit than the worst. The Sage Nutri Juicer Plus is definitely a pricey option. If you’re looking for a simple juicer that gets the job done, the Dualit Juice Extractor is almost as good at a more affordable price. Clean-up wasn’t difficult as such, but the Froojie disc and its insert meant there was more washing-up to do. The transparent bowl, juicer lid, pulp bin, juice disc, the jug and its lid are all dishwasher-safe – top shelf only – while the Froojie insert is not. It isn’t clear whether the Froojie disc can be cleaned in the dishwasher; I chose to err on the side of caution. Our high performance fast juice makers are designed to extract large amounts of nutrient rich juice faster than a cold press juicer. While the extra wide feed chute helps shorten preparation time, the Cold Spin Technology ensures an insignificant temperature increase during the juicing process and the Noise Reduction Technology reduces mechanical noise in the kitchen. Aesthetically, the Bluicer is an absolute stunner. The blending and juicing attachments sit atop a fingerprint-proof, brushed stainless steel body, which looks sleek and is incredibly easy to keep clean. The pusher, though plastic, is also a sleek silver and without handling it, you wouldn’t guess it was made from a different material to the Bluicer’s housing. Even the inner juicing blade, which you’ll rarely see, is a delight to look at because of its attractive gold colouring.

As UK Juicers explain, “slow juicers and cold press juicers are just new names for masticating juicers”. This is because terms like “cold press” have been seen as a good marketing tool. The key difference is that these juicers break down a fruit or vegetable into smaller particles before the juice is ground out. More juice is extracted, according to Elias Ebert of iSqueeze, but it takes longer – although still less than a minute to make your morning juice. What are centrifugal juicers and how do you use them? After using the Froojie disc at the recommended setting ‘1’, the instructions suggest turning the speed up to ‘2’ to eject the final bits of fruit puree – this really does work and is helpful for cleaning purposes as well. Aside from the obvious benefit of having two products in one, you’ll also be able to use your own fresh juice in smoothies instead of reaching for shop-bought stuff. Moreover, some ingredients, such as kale, don’t take well to juicing. So the ability to chop and change between the two functions gives you the opportunity to create more complex drinks. If you don't have much time or need to prepare a glass of morning OJ for everyone in the family, then a centrifugal juicer will be more your speed. We tested cold press juicers and centrifugal juicer machines from Nutribullet, Philips, Sage and more. To discover the best juicer, we measured exactly how much juice each squeezed out and how much of a faff it was to get the juice and pulp out afterwards.

As cold as a cold press

According to Paul Hellawell at UK Juicers, it is a myth that centrifugal juicers destroy enzymes in the juice. “They just don’t extract as many as a cold press masticating juicer does,” Hellawell explains. “UK Juicers’ position is that masticating juicers are better. Centrifugal juicers do not destroy nutrients, but they also do ‘produce less nutritious juice’.” How do I clean my juicer? They only work with citrus fruit, so they're not any good if you want to add other fruit or vegetables More impressively, the Bluicer is surprisingly quiet. I was expecting an almighty roar as my fruit was blitzed into dust by the high-speed blades, but it was anything but ear piercing considering the force it exerts. In blender mode, the machine was a lot louder though not significantly more than rival machines. There’s an added bonus in that it works as a pomegranate juicer as well. According to UK Juicers, a manual press is preferable than an electric one for the seedy red fruit, so if you like pomegranate juice (it’s delicious), this juicer comes highly recommended – although I found it to work better on smaller pomegranates. Pomegranate and orange juice was a revelation. We sieved each juice to measure how smooth it was, and timed how fast we could make juice with each machine.

The control panel of the Nutri Juicer Plus includes an on/off switch, a clear LCD speed indicator and a speed control dial. All are straightforward to use because every turn of the dial lights up different suggestions for juicing, from soft fruit at setting ‘1’ to hard veg, apple and pineapple at setting ‘5’.The best juicers typically got 15% more juice out of the fruit and veg compared to the worst on test. The Bluicer has an interchangeable design with one base and two modes - kinetic blending and cold spin juicing. In juicer mode, easily process whole fruits and vegetables, then extract fresh juice directly into the blending jug. In the blender mode, select from several one-touch programs and use the high-power motor to mix fresh juice with fruits, vegetables or ice to create endless healthy recipes. We found the best juicer machines to be a breeze to use, with wide chutes to put whole apples and oranges down.
