Goh grew up in Vermilion City in the Kanto region with his parents, Camille and Walker, and grandmother, Halta. Sometime later, Goh met Chloe and became his only friend growing up. Goh appears as a main character in the manga Pokémon Journeys: The Series, playing the same role as he does in the anime. White Flower Floette was encountered in Shalour City as a Flabébé, but her capture was not confirmed until The Cuteness Quotient!. In Under Color of Darkness!, her flower was revealed to have lost a petal, causing her to be unable to fly properly on it anymore. Ash and Goh traveled to Kalos to find a new flower for her, eventually succeeding. Almost immediately afterwards, she evolved into Floette. Goh then decided to release her so that she could grow and protect a garden of white flowers for other Flabébé.

Kingdra was targeted by Goh for his second Project Mew Trial Mission. After locating it in an underwater cave off the coast of Slateport City, he battled against it and managed to catch it. When Ash and Goh's air supply started to run out, Goh had Kingdra propel them to the surface.

In Sword and Shield: Slumbering Weald!, Goh and Ash were sent to Galar to investigate various incidents where Pokémon suddenly began Dynamaxing at random. Shortly after arriving, Goh and Ash chased a wild Bunnelby into the Slumbering Weald, where they encountered Zamazenta and Zacian. Their attempts to catch and battle the two Legendary Pokémon ended in failure as they were merely illusions. After exiting the forest, Goh met with Sonia again and headed with her to investigate the ruins in Turffield. In the following episode, Sonia took Goh to visit her grandmother Professor Magnolia to learn more about Dynamax. Goh later received a Dynamax Band from Sonia, which was fashioned from a Wishing Star they found outside. The next day, at the Stow-on-Side mural, Goh and Sonia were approached by Oleana's subordinate, who aimed to stop the duo's research. Goh Dynamaxed Raboot to battle Oleana's subordinate's Gigantamax Garbodor, but the clash broke the mural, revealing a statue of Zacian and Zamazenta underneath. In Just a Scone's Throw From Here!, Eternatus was revealed to have been unsealed, with Professor Magnolia, Sonia, and Leon hoping to achieve coexistence between it and the people of Galar. As such, Goh decided to entrust Eternatus to Leon, who accepted the offer. Everything starts with the roll of a die! Each round, you roll a total of 10 dice. The dice, and the words on them, will inspire you! There are 65 Pokemon from the Kanto region to catch and 40 missions to achieve and win the game. The more you succeed, the more challenging they get!

Goh has owned five starter Pokémon (six if his temporary Cyndaquil is counted), the most of any of Ash's traveling companions. Have obtained a Grass-type starter Pokémon since Clemont, who received his Chespin in Mega-Mega Meowth Madness!, 335 episodes earlier.

Goh appears in an event based on Pokémon Journeys: The Series from November 6, 2020 to November 12, 2020, as the character's clothes are available for the player's avatar. Just as during this period, an image of Goh appears during Photo Bomb, when this occurs a Scyther appears to be captured. Other Pokémon based on Goh's captures during the series also appeared more in the wild, such as Golurk and Cubone. [2] Pokémon Ga-Olé Kingdra has not been seen since its debut episode, making it unclear whether Goh kept it following the Trial Mission. As of Time After Time!, Goh has more individual Pokémon species under his current ownership than any other main character, including Ash.
