While it’s well known that trainers have max wattages (actually – dirty secret, most don’t truly, it’s just that companies don’t have equipment to test above the wattages they specify), they also have what are known as ‘wattage floors’, which is when they struggle to produce a low enough wattage at certain gears. I don’t often test too much in this area, since in most cases the trainer floors tend to be in the range of 50-80w for most trainers, which tends to be below the level people often train at. As usual, I put the trainer up against a number of power meters to see how well it handled everything from resistance control accuracy, to speed of change, to any other weird quirks along the way. But what about accuracy compared to other power meters? After all, it can be as smooth as it wants, but if it’s not actually accurate, it doesn’t mean much.
