From the front office to the field, you’re in charge of literally everything. Dish out Staff Points to upgrade your coaching crew, dominate with weekly strategy and counter your opponent’s strengths. It feels good to see layers added to franchise mode. Teams now have offensive and defensive coordinators with skill trees. The coordinators’ abilities can be felt across the roster, and there is now more relevancy to the weekly preparation portion of the experience. EA does about as good of a job with Face of the Franchise: United We Rise as you can expect considering this is a concept that needs a refresh.

A two-step drop

Buying Madden every year only emboldens EA to continue down the same path. We know EA is fully capable of providing a premium NFL football experience. Just look at the 2000’s Madden games. It’s long past the point for EA to do better. When choosing a custom coach, there is one less option this year. Instead, you are presented with Staff Builder, which has an eye for talent, or Team Builder, which has a secret remedy. Not really sure what either of those perks are as no other additional information is given.
