Over on the Speed Champions side of the LEGO lineup, 2023 will be seeing one of the most iconic racers of all time brought into the fold. Marking the second build from the Fast & Furious franchise, Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Conner will be getting the minifigure treatment alongside his Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. As set number 76917, this follows up last year’s 1970 Dodge Charger featuring Dominic Toretto. I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Under the hood lives the Iconic RB26DETT engine, with a single turbo conversion and a few other tuning modifications. The moving pistons can also be seen through the hood vents while the hood is closed. This is surely on top of my LEGO Speed Champions wishlist for 2023. How about you? 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) (76917) The LEGO Group famously loves an anniversary – just look at all the celebrations around its own 90th birthday – so it’s not especially surprising to learn that was the catalyst for turning to the Fast & Furious franchise again already. But with the doors now open to Hollywood’s most memorable cars, across screens big and small, here’s hoping the Speed Champions subtheme gets a little more diverse further into 2023 and beyond. But my favorite are the trans blue 1×2 plates on the bottom which are supposed to resemble the neon lights that the original car has. This Fast and Furious car toy is so much fun to build. Okay… I’m gonna say it – and I am sure that a lot of people would agree and pay the up charge. Speed Champions should go big/ at least 1 time with Knight Rider. I’m talking about Kit and the Semi trailer it drives into!The LEGO Speed Champions line has released a few different “Movie” cars over the years. This is actually the second model from the 2 Fast 2 Furious franchise. But it is the onlySpeed Champions Set announced in the January 2023 LEGO releases. I do expect more to come later in the year. PS: You probably noticed the Hoonicorn wheels on the model, and gold Porsche Wheels on the Renders. I only used the Porsche wheels in the Renders because the Stud.io software did not offer models for newer Supercar wheels. The car is set up to use any Wheels that use the 35189 disc brake wheel hubs introduced in the Bugatti Chiron. In the Parts list I put the Wheels from the Lamborghini Sian, but of course you can put on any wheels you want to :) I’ve also loved watching all TEN of these movies. I was very distraught when I learned of Paul Walker’s passing. This set is a perfect homage to him. And the minifigure looks very much like him. The Brian O’Conner Minifig has dual molded arms and a scruffy beard. Another one of my favorite parts is the use of Nexo Knight shields during the build process. I won’t get into how – exactly – but instead let you discover it for yourself.

FYI, the other Fast and Furious LEGO set is Dom’s iconic car 1970 Dodge Charger R/Twhich came out in the summer of 2022. These are great car toy models if you like LEGO speed Champions.
