Description

The next-gen Insta360 ONE RS has arrived! As the highly anticipated follow-up to ONE R, the industry-changing interchangeable lens action cam, ONE RS has some pretty big shoes to fill. And of course, the first question on everyone’s lips: “So ONE RS vs ONE R, what’s new?” I am disappointed in this camera, I bought this one because my GoPro 10 was turning off on me and apparently it’s not just GoPro that has this problem. The new Insta360 ONE RS Twin Edition comes with an improved megapixel size thanks to the new image sensor, the can shoot pictures up to 48MP , and thanks to the higher resolution we get a lot more detail in the pictures.

Devices that do not meet the above requirements can possibly still use the app to control the camera, however, performance of some processor-intensive and AI-powered features may be sub-optimal. The quality of the Insta360 ONE RS is pretty good, it achieves good natural colors and nice sharpness in the videos but in comparison with the new Hero 11, it still has a bit to go to be as good in video quality. It’s a touchscreen, of course, and it’s a cinch to swipe between all the main modes and find other options by swiping up and down. The design of the Insta360 ONE RS Twin Edition is very unique being capable of changing the lens, the design and size changes with every different lens. It’s seemed to survive rugged use well including spills in the sea (waterproof). No worries if you’re splashing on Miami beach or snorkeling the waters in the Philippines. You shouldn’t use HDR all the time, though. It’s limited to 30fps at 4K resolution and in lots of situations HDR video looks too much like the HDR photos from much earlier generations of phones, with less realistic-looking mid-tones and a hit to color fidelity. It also highlights the purple fringing that is a regular issue with the camera, where three branches against the sky have a violet aura to them.

iOS users must connect to the camera wirelessly and live stream using mobile phone data. Supported platforms include Facebook, YouTube or via an RTMP URL. The action cam and Insta360 studio are relatively easy to use once you get the hang of them. The interface is user-friendly, but if it’s your first time, it will require some time to get comfortable navigating the functions. Is the Insta360 ONE RS a novelty or a serious filmmaking device? Unique in the market, the ONE RS is designed to appeal to anyone who would normally consider a GoPro yet yearns to at least have a go at 360º. In our initial test we were impressed by how easy the modules snapped together, and how stable they feel once they've been pushed onto the battery module. Not only do they fit together so easily, but the processor/touchscreen can be turned through 180º and snapped into place so that the subject can see what's going on. That ‘selfie mode’ will prove useful for anyone doing a piece to camera.

As you’re probably aware, ONE RS and ONE R both have a unique interchangeable lens system, whereby multiple lenses can be swapped in and out on the same device. Essentially, the perfect camera for every situation. It is with the lenses that we find our first big difference: the new 4K Boost Lens. To whet your appetite, here’s a little taster of what this bad boy can do: 4K Boost Lens: A Total Upgrade Der zweite Teil meines Schwachwerdens für die OneRS ist - wie gesagt - das 4K boosted Modul, eben auch aufgrund des ActiveHDR und dem 6K 2.35:1 Video Modus. Während der bisherigen sonnigen Tage hat sich beides für mich von der Qualität her bewährt. When the Insta360 One R arrived, you had to process your videos through the Insta360 app to get stabilization. This effectively meant your phone was doing the work. In-camera stabilization was added in an update, but this time it’s the norm from day one.Photos, 6K Widescreen Video & Active HDR Video: Thanks to a new sensor, capture crisp 48MP photos, ultra-detailed 6K widescreen videos and vibrant HDR action videos. The two lens modules impress on specs. The 4K Wide Angle Mod is a f/2.0, 16.4mm focal length (35mm equivalent) lens that can snap photos in 12 MP (4:3) and 8MP (16:9) and shoot video in 4K 60fps. It also manages 200fps in full HD, allowing 8x slow-mo footage. Meanwhile, the Dual-Lens 360º Mod is standard Insta360 fare, with its two f/2.8, 7.2mm (35mm equivalent) lenses that together capture everything in 5.7K 30fps. Boost Lens: This is an upgrade to the previous 4K Wide Angle Lens. Thanks to a larger 1/2" 48MP sensor, it shoots more detailed 4K 60fps video and 48MP photos. Two new innovative modes are also available: 6K Widescreen mode for ultra-high-res 2.35:1 videos and Active HDR mode for better highlights and shadows in action videos. Slow mo, time-lapse, time shift, and loop recording are all available in both lenses. Don’t miss this if you need all the basics plus a bit more for your Youtube vlogs and TikTok uploads. Audio Quality The last attempt had HDR, but the ONE RS adds Active HDR, which is uniquely designed for capturing sports and fast action outdoors (though not in low light conditions). This video mode retains details in highlights and shadows and boosts colour, but also adds some FlowState Stabilization.
