Glenkinchie’s maltings remained open until 1968. The buildings have since been turned into a museum which contains a remarkable scale model of a working distillery built by SMD in 1925 for the British Empire Exhibition.

After opening up with a drop of water, a complex sweetness, like toffee came through - moreso than the tamadhu 12, which I felt was of a less complex sweetness but felt it was less complex than the Glen Scotia's salted caramel feel.

Glenkinchie,was recently named as ‘ The Garden Distillery’, due to its beautiful new garden development; fruits of a vision of planting to echo the land and greenery surrounding the distillery in the midst of East Lothian. In 1969 the distillery stopped malting its own grain and the malting floors were turned into a museum of malt whisky. An old edition of the 10 year old from one of the few distilleries remaining in the Lowlands. We associate Glenkinchie with herbal, floral, full-bodied Lowland flavours. I didn't really detect any notes that were described in the write up, but I am usually very good at identifying coffees, wines and rums. Tried this alongside a tamadhu and a glen scotia dram, and this was probably the most "different" to what I've tasted in the past. The 10-year-old single malt from Glenkinchie, originally released in 1987 and since replaced by the 12-year-old. This one being the most different would probably make it a good serious sipper, and I did prefer it to the Tamadhu, but it wasn't to my personal liking enough to be buying a full bottle.
