The primary limitation of the Apple Watch ECG feature is that the inability to continuously measure your readings means the data you get is less accurate and less valuable. Especially when trying to spot any heart issues. The final option is to pair it with 3rd party devices as an external heart rate monitor. This includes those manufactured by Garmin, Polar, Wahoo, Zwift and Peloton. In this mode Frontier X sends out heart rate data to the paired device. In the short time, I've used this device (one week), it's updated five times — almost every time I tried to record an activity. These updates had to happen before I could start, and they each took five to 10 minutes. Sometimes, I only have 20 minutes to squeeze a workout in when I'm busy. The constant updates were frustrating, as they ate up valuable time I could have spent sweating. The functionality works well and alerts you if something is amiss. As mentioned, I found it useful as it gave me peace of mind following two bouts with COVID-19. Beyond that, you might be suffering from heart rate issues that you might not be aware of. The idea of this wearable is to warn you if this is, indeed, the case. It also warns if your breathing rate goes up to much during exercise, as this can be damaging to your lungs.

The Frontier X is IP67 rated and waterproof up to 1.5 metres. Battery life is 'up to' 24 hours of continuous use or two weeks of 'typical use'.
