They're a cheap way to store several bikes without leaning them on each other or using wall supports, and they fold away to nothing.Load capacity: this isn’t going to matter so much if you’re only working on a 7kg road bike, but a strong stand is crucial for those who own downhill mountain bikes or even electric bikes. It takes advantage of the flex that tyres have, so all you have to do is wheel your bike vertically towards the wall and push the tyre into the Clug. The tyre will naturally distort to fit through the pinch point, and this holds your bike into place, while the rear wheel rests on the floor. Unior’s 1693A Bike Gator does a solid job as a workstand – but its fierce clamp doesn’t suit all frames and seatposts. Folding bike wheel size: Models with smaller wheels will be lighter and more compact when folded, but won’t gather as much momentum on the road. A folding bike with larger wheels will be much faster rolling once the wheels are up to speed - but will likely weigh more and will be a little more cumbersome to load onto public transport or haul up a few flights of stairs. Clamping a bike by the seatpost can mean having to move the post to secure enough 'real estate' for the clamp – risking misalignment of the saddle, returning it to the wrong height or ultimately stripping the clamp bolts through repeated tightening/loosening.
