About this deal

Delia’s teary doe eyes were gone. She looked at the roll of tape with all the assurance of a girl who had yet to be let down by the most important man in her life. Author and single mom Finlay Donovan has been in messes before―after all, she's a pro at removing bloodstains for various unexpected reasons―but none quite like this. When Finlay and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero accidentally destroyed a luxury car that they had "borrowed" in the process of saving the life of Finlay's ex-husband, the Russian mob did her a favor and bought the car for her. And now Finlay owes them. The book is as much comic novel as crime novel, a touch more Janet Evanovich than Agatha Christie. Elle Cosimano has a deft feel for the risible twist…”— Toronto Star

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It: A Novel (The Finlay Donovan

I forced a smile as I pulled the knit cap over her head, just low enough to conceal the evidence. Delia grinned up at me, her tiny fingers raking the mop of Frankenstein-like strands from her eyes. Finlay Donovan Is Killing It has got to have one of the most intriguing setups I've ever seen. And that setup comes to pass in one of the best scenes I've read in a long time. At one point I was howling with laughter, causing my husband to come over and ask if I was all right. With her resourceful accomplice a.k.a nanny, she finds herself to investigate a real life crimes: a contract killer out there and Finlay is so close to solve it with her unconventional approach. Cosimano’s] story authentically depicts the messiness, hilarity and heartfelt moments of motherhood.” —CityScene MagazineYour chances of landing an agent were about ten thousand to one. And your odds of landing a book deal were even worse. Somehow, you’d managed to pull off both. Getting away with murder had to be easier than that, right?” Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this book is that it both seems over the top and implausible and completely believable at the same time, which is quite a feat. All of the secondary characters were a joy to read, and Finlay's kids definitely helped provide extra comic relief at different points as well. As funny as this book was, it also managed to be a clever mystery without ever feeling overwrought and also kept me guessing throughout, although the beauty of this book is the thrill of the ride. The ending is absolutely fitting and certainly opens the door for a full series, and I would love to see more from our scrappy heroine! Finlay Donovan is a writer of lightly-read romantic suspense novels, but she’s late with her latest draft and at risk of having to forfeit her advance. She’s behind on her bills, and now her ex-husband is engaged to their former real estate agent and is gearing up to fight for custody of their two kids. In short, Finlay’s life is a mess.

Next time you come waltzing in here unannounced, you might accidentally walk in on something you wished you hadn’t seen.” Finlay Donovan Is Killing It had a few moments that could have been better, but also many more that were just brilliant. It was so original, unlike anything I’ve ever read before, which on its own made it an exciting read for me. Cosimano makes her adult debut with this off-the-wall series starter, which is part comedy of errors, part genuine thriller. Deftly balancing genre conventions with sly, tongue-in-cheek comments on motherhood and femininity, Cosimano crafts a deliciously twisted tale that will earn her a slew of adult fans.” —ALA BooklistIf you love thrillers, but wish the genre would lighten up a little then you absolutely must read Finlay Donovan Is Killing It.”— PopSugar Not to say only SBCMFs will enjoy this romp about a barely-scraping-by newly-divorced writer and mother of two who’s mistaken for a hit woman, but man those MFs are gonna love it. I totally enjoyed this zany story, which delighted and surprised me from beginning to end. It looks like this will be the start of a series, and I couldn't be more excited. With that little bombshell of an ending, I can only hope our wait for the next book isn't too tortuously long. A warm and uplifting novel about an isolated witch whose opportunity to embrace a quirky new family--and a new love--changes the course of her life.

Review - Finlay Donovan Is Killing It By Elle Cosimano Book Review - Finlay Donovan Is Killing It By Elle Cosimano

It’s a widely known fact that most moms are ready to kill someone by eight thirty A.M. on any given morning. What Finlay and her nanny/accomplice get themselves into is crazy, uproarious fun. There are bodies, mobsters, hit men and the plot races along. The girl power in this book is fierce and the comedy even fiercer. It’s a don’t-miss addition to the Finlay Donovan series!” —BookTrib When I was writing Finlay’s story, it was pivotal to me that she be deeply relatable — that her voice and circumstances feel real and authentic, even if the plot wasn’t. There’s a lot of my own internal voice in Finlay’s character. I’ve been that weary, bone-tired mom who’s desperately trying to juggle parenthood and a career that others don’t always take seriously. I’ve been that mom who’s wondered if I’ll ever get another book deal. I’ve been that mom who’s been forced to prioritize the needs of everyone else over my own. Who’s made questionable decisions in the name of what’s best for my kids. Those were the real, deep, true-to-life elements that brought balance to the zanier aspects of the story. And truthfully, I hope Finn and I never stop asking that question: Am I going to be able to pull this off? If we’re not, maybe we’re not taking worthwhile risks. Maybe we’re not really stretching ourselves.” After being banned from Panera for bad behavior.. Finlay decided to meet her book agent at...well Panera of course! Certainly she could meet her agent at another restaurant, but in typical Finlay style..Panera it is! This fiasco continues on a downward spiral when she is mistaken for a contract killer while discussing her latest book ideas!Win Next Month’s Book We’ll choose one commenter each month to receive a FREE copy of next month’s title!
