About this deal

Before you begin reading this book, take a look at the map at the very front. It's a map of northern France and southern England. Notice how close the cities of Dover and Calais are; the sea distance is about 21 miles. Meanwhile, continue west to the widest gap between France and England which is about 100 miles. That's the distance between Portsmouth, England and the five Normandy beaches. Those 100 miles were crossed by the American, British, and Canadian forces on June 6, 1944 - D-Day. Why the Allied forces chose to set the invasion on this particular plot of land in France, reachable after an all-night trip from England, is the topic of many other books about WW2. This book, "Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies" by Ben MacIntyre, is the story of how British intelligence worked to make the Germans think the imminent invasion would occur at Calais, rather than Normandy.

Alex Cross is the ultimate heroine!!! boy, I have gotten used to bad grammar and apostrophes in the wrong place but this is just too much. Also I think I remember there being used instead of their at the beginning of the revue. Lord help us!! Reply I found Morgan Freeman to be an excellent Alex Cross. I saw the move when first released. No way should Tyler Perry played him. ReplyWhen I was younger I idolized Mobsters, and admired the “family” part of the Mafia. I liked the Hollywood idea of the Mafia, the glamour of it. It took growing up to realize that they were really just thugs and brutal murderers. I still find them interesting, but more in the way I find serial killers interesting. No longer admiring any part of that nonsense. The author does a good job of describing the covert intel war on the Iberian Peninsula. It seems it became the central theater in the war between MI 6 and German Intelligence - the Abwehr. Especially in the early war, most of the German controllers were based in either Spain or Portugal. In telling the story of the Abwehr’s attempts to get agents into Britain, Mr. Macintyre does an excellent job to discussing the weaknesses and frankly the gullibility in the German agents controlling their British Spy ring.

Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies - Goodreads

Playboys, loyalists and people whose lives had otherwise been irreversibly impacted by the spreading German occupancy eventually found themselves as members of a team whose primary responsibility was to lead the Nazi leadership into thinking that the D-Day assault would take place in any number of places other than Normandy, whose proximity to Britain's coastline made it an obvious choice. Among the misdirected targets were the Mediterranean, Norway and the northern coast of France. Some may say that this book is just one of many conspiracy theories written about JFK and RFK assassinations.Born March 22, 1947, Patterson was raised in New York in Newburgh. He was the son of a school teacher and an insurance salesman, and first started writing when he was 19 years old. He attended Manhattan College and graduated in 1969. Vanderbilt University gave him a full scholarship to attend their graduate program in English. He departed there before he was able to leave with a degree thanks to complications from the Vietnam War. The book was adapted into a film starring Morgan Freeman in 2001. The role of main character Alex Cross was also taken up, played by Tyler Perry in the 2012 film titled Alex Cross. The adaptation of the Middle School novel by Patterson for middle grade students came out in theaters in 2016.
