When this device was launched, the general consensus was, “It looks great, I love it… but what would I use it for?” Overall, the Engine lineup is pretty easy to sort through. My default recommendation here is the PRIME 4 and, in fact, it’s my top overall recommendation for a standalone DJ system excluding any other factors. The fact that the XZ has full-proper CDJ jog wheels is a big selling feature to many DJs, even if it results in making it the size of a houseboat. The mixer on the XZ is a big deal, too. It mimics a DJM-900NXS2 and, generally speaking… Pioneer hardware overall has better and more robust FX than Denon.

All things being equal, if given no other info, this would be my general recommendation for a Pioneer standalone unit. Being released after the CDJ-3000, it inherits many features from that player… such as its enhanced Browse section and 3-band waveforms. The jog wheels feel buttery smooth, and the faders feel solid. He also didn’t say anything about whether or not there’s ultrasonic garbage past the roll off on the GO. For that matter, he doesn’t appear to have measured the frequency response at all. Here’s the thing. Small versions of “serious” gear often feel at best like also-rans, at worse, like cheap consumer versions of that bigger gear. Not here. While this isn’t, of course, particularly cheap, it is built just as well as the more expensive Denon DJ Prime gear. It is a dream to DJ on, albeit a bit fiddly (although the small jogs don’t bother me at all). In all ways, it feels like “pro” gear to DJ on – just shrunk. Strangely maybe, the small jogwheels didn’t worry me at all – and I thought they might.

Perform with Music Anywhere

Also the unit wasn't turning on after I turned it off , after 1 h I repress the button and it turned on battery at 70 % , a friend was guessing it was empty As a first DJ setup, it’s certainly easy-to-use and well-made, although the price probably puts it beyond entry-level and, unless you’re dead set on entering the Prime sphere or really want the wireless power, there are better value options out there.

Outputs: 2 Master (1 x RCA 1 x XLR) 1 Booth (XLR) 1 Zone (XLR) 1 Headphone Monitor (1/4 Inch & 1/8 Inch) For something so portable, the Prime Go is undeniably very effective and a lot of fun to play around with That comes down to the metal build, the bright, high quality screen, the pro knobs (all bolted to the underlying metal plate), the pro inputs and outputs. It feel like “bigger” gear, shrunk, not a plastic copy of pro gear that you just know won’t stand abuse.

The Pioneer XDJ XZ is Pioneer’s high-end option for standalone gear. They have managed to cram a lot of features into this controller. Developing a system that allows pro DJs to use a close-to-club setup in the studio without needing an expensive Nexus setup.

Using your mobile data or either a venue’s WiFi or wired internet connection, you can stream music from TIDAL with its catalogue of over 60+ million songs, just using PRIME GO and with no laptop needed. Never be caught out again for that elusive song request, having literally the world’s music, exclusive playlists and curated content at your fingertips! More exciting streaming partners will be available soon. The XDJ-RR is probably the closest thing you’ll find to “a value” in regards to Pioneer gear. Of course, at half the price of the RX3, this does come along with some compromise. Unlike DJ controllers, standalone DJ systems are self-contained devices meant for the purpose of mixing music… without involving the use of a laptop. But what is the best standalone DJ system? Get serious about your “must have” specs and features, and it will help you make a confident buying decision. If you are an existing DJ that uses a controller the transition to an all-in-one system comes with both pros and cons. The explosion in quality all-in-one DJ controllers over the last few years is a fantastic development. There are several excellent options available that can finally remove you from staring at the laptop. It’s hard to have a conversation like this without mentioning that for many DJs, the whole point is to familiarize themselves with rekordbox and a CDJ type of setup, as they are typically considered to be the club and industry standard. Though, it’s worth mentioning that Engine devices can read Rekordbox libraries, but not the other way around. Telling people to leave their trim-gain knobs at one physical rotation spot (or narrow range) is bad advice. That only worked for him because he was using test signals of known level.

Denon DJ has announced a new Engine DJ software update with version 2.4. The latest update brings some new key features and improvements to the Operating System (OS) and Desktop. It has 4 assignable inputs (for connecting media players or turntables), and a suite of effects from Denon's X1850 PRIME mixer. It can play music straight from one of its four USB inputs, or from an SD card. It even includes a 2.5” SATA drive bay… allowing you to carry your music on an internal hard drive. Uncompressed music is supported (such as FLAC, ALAC, or WAV files)… and you can use any one of these sources to record your DJ sets. as its bigger PRIME 4 brother, but adds a rechargeable lithium-ion battery to provide extreme portability. Take advantage of Outside of a single AUX input, there are no connections for external devices. This is meant to be an “in the box” device, so you won’t find RCA ports for turntables or CDJs. You can use it with your laptop as a controller, but only with Rekordbox in performance mode… there’s no Serato this time.

The output from the Go (master RCA and XLR out) were measured with a PicoScope 5000-series digital oscilloscope set to 16-bit resolution. Although this is hardly a high-performance audio analyzer it is more than adequate for this job. Engine DJ has released a new operating system update in version 3.1. It brings new and improved features and a series of fixes. This update ensures Engine DJ OS remains powerful and upholds its status as a dominant performance software. New features include Touch FX with new effects and touchscreen interaction, Main FX with twenty-six new and updated effects, Frequency parameter, a range of new Sampler features and the introduction of Smartlists, which organise songs automatically using pre-set rules from all connected devices.
