I really enjoy Patterson books although his collaborations with other authors not always so much. This one is perfect for a beach read or if you just want something that isn't challenging. The Dunnes are taking the family boat out for a trip together to try and reconnect & sort out their issues. Peter Carlyle is the step dad and staying behind in New York, his wife, her three kids and her brother in law from a previous marriage head off. Personal problems arise, a horrendous storm hits and then there is an explosion, certainly not the best start to a holiday. Stranded, hurt and presumed dead, the Dunnes need to do what they can to stay alive.

Sometimes you have to read a really bad book to appreciate other books. This story had weakly developed characters who made no sense and a plot that was plain idiotic. The dysfunctional Dunne family go on a boating holiday so Katherine the mother can reconnect with her bulimic daughter Carrie, Mark her stoner son and Eric a chubby 10 year old. Uncle Jake is the Captain who sails the doomed yacht. After our list of the best sailing movies, we decided to bring you another one – The top 12 sailing books every sailor should read in 2022. However, events soon conspire to render the trip less therapeutic and, in fact, close to disastrous.I love James Patterson so much. I don't know if its even fair to say that since he always has co writers but this book was so good! Short chapters ✅ Fast moving plot ✅ Interesting Characters ✅ Each crisis made me think of how my elementary aged children play. Each resolution to each crisis made me think of how imaginative and realistic my children are compared to the author. Honestly, this would be a fantastic children's book. But you'd have to chop all the meaningless profanities and ridiculous sex related elements. Seriously ridiculous. Robin Knox-Johnston’s account of his non-stop solo-circumnavigation of the world. He presents a vivid and vulnerable portrait of a sailor attempting to accomplish what most thought impossible.

A staggering survival story written by Steven Callahan about 76 days spent in a life raft in the Atlantic Ocean. Anne manages to pull things together bit by bit, but just as they begin feeling like a family again, something catastrophic happens. Survival may be the least of their concerns. An account of an ambitious father-son project: build a boat and take on Cape Horn. With nothing more than a compass, sextant, and pet cat, the father and son duo are tested on an incredible voyage. Told in alternating sections by father and son. Best Nautical Novels New Zealander, Tom Neale travels to Suwarrow, a remote South Pacific atoll, and spends 16 years living alone and off the land. If you’ve ever fantasized about living on a remote South Pacific Island, this book is for you. 8. Sailing & Mountain Exploration Books– H.W. TilmanWritten in 1951, The Old Man and the Sea was Ernest Hemingway’s last major work of fiction. It follows the story of a Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin off the coast of Cuba. The classic nautical novel was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and is one of the author’s most famous works.

At 18 years old, Tania Aebi was going nowhere, until her father presented her with an ultimatum: she could go to college or get a boat. She chose the latter and for the next two and a half years and 27,000 miles, she sailed the world with only her cat as a companion. Sailing adventure books Seeking adventure, Mowat hopes to buy a boat, a proud and seaworthy vessel, and roam the seven seas. Instead, he gets the worst boat ever and nearly goes mad trying to keep it from sinking. Joshua Slocum’s Sailing Alone Around the Worldis a really interesting account of the first solo-circumnavigation. It would be an interesting account even if it were written today but is especially so due to the fact that the events he recounts take place prior to the 20th century. Kon-Tiki was the first book about sailing that I ever read. And really it is more about adventuring than sailing. The sheer foolhardiness of building a balsa wood raft and sailing it 4000 miles from Peru to Tahiti is enough to pique the interest of any adventurous soul. We'll calculate the weight of your items and offer you the option to use either our drop-off service (up to 9kg), or our courier collection service (anything over 9kg). They traveled for 26 years (covering the equivalent of 5 circumnavigations) in their home-built cutters, Seraffyn and Taleisin. Hope you’re not missing the heat of the SP too too much. If I may suggest a few more books for your great list. She documents her many adventures: piloting through whirlpools, run-ins with bears and cougars, climbing thousand-foot cliffs, and exploring abandoned First Nations villages. Her account is both inspiring and a reminder to slow down, appreciate the beauty of nature, and be present with those you love. The Dunne family, led by matriarch Katherine, are setting out for a sailing adventure in the Caribbean. Katherine hopes this will bring the family together and help her children get over their personal problems. Chichester’s journey set records, earned him a knighthood, and fueled the ambition of the next generation of sailors, to become the first to sail around the world non-stop in the 1968 Golden Globe Race. 6.
