Once you learn this chart you will have to learn additional rules and deviations that relate to the specific rules of the games you will be playing. The better you learn basic strategy the easier it will be to transition to the other rules-specific charts. The belief that the Hi Lo involved too much counting and took the fun out of the game is what led Fuchs and Vancura to write this book. They developed the KO Count by making one major change to the Hi Lo method. This change is that 7 is a low card instead of a neutral. When you see a 7, you add a one to the count. This leads to an unbalanced system. The dealer will reveal their face down card, and depending on the value, will hit or stand. If your hand is closer to 21 than that of the dealer, you will win. If the dealer’s hand is closer to 21 then you lose. Now you can either use the rebet option to bet the same amount as the previous round and start again. If you split aces, you are dealt a second card to each hand as usual, but you are not allowed to take any further cards (unless you are dealt another ace and split again). All hands resulting from splitting aces remain as two-card hands. The object of the game is to win money by creating card totals higher than those of the dealer's hand but not exceeding 21, or by stopping at a total in the hope that the dealer will bust. On their turn, players choose to "hit" (take a card), "stand" (end their turn and stop without taking a card), "double" (double their wager, take a single card, and finish), "split" (if the two cards have the same value, separate them to make two hands), or "surrender" (give up a half-bet and retire from the game).

In team play, it is common for team members to be dedicated to only counting a side bet using a specialized count. In addition, where You play any game, or place a bet using the Services, or otherwise use the Services, You agree to be bound by: Once you’ve drawn your additional cards or stood, the dealer will reveal his face-down card and either stand or hit. Dealers are subject to specific rules that players are not, so they will always hit on anything less than 16, and always stand on anything more than 17. Scarne, John (1986). If you’re playing at a casino that offers surrender (also known as late surrender or LS), you will only have the option to surrender on the first two cards you’re dealt. You won’t be able to surrender if you’ve already taken a hit card. This is why surrender is the first thing you have to think about when playing your hand. If the answer is NO you can’t or NO you shouldn’t surrender, you then ask yourself…. Thankfully, some people are so experienced that they’ve made it their life’s mission to share what they know with the world, and teach less experienced card players what they need to know when they sit around a casino table. One of these people is the legendary John Scarne.

It makes the player's 12 a worse hand to stand on (since the only way to avoid losing is for the dealer to go bust, which is less likely if there are fewer 10s left in the shoe). If you're fairly sure that your hand will beat the dealer's, you can double your original bet. You're sometimes allowed to double down for any amount up to the original bet amount. In most casinos you may double down on any hand, but some casinos require an opening hand worth 11, 10 or 9.
