Violin superstar André Rieu has made classical music accessible to millions around the world and has turned the waltz into an international sensation, recently extending his record as the highest grossing classical artist in Billboard’s Boxscore history. My dream is to make the whole of classical music accessible for everyone. To achieve that, I've had my own recording studio built, and we're working hard to make new recordings of the classical repertoire. For at least the last twenty years, my personal life has been so bound up with my work that the story of my personal life would sound pretty much the same as the story of my career - especially as my wife Marjorie has been so closely involved from the start. My life is simply music, music is what we are always doing, and it never gets boring! Please note the maximum bag sized permitted is 21cm x 30cm x 19cm (the size of an A4 piece of paper).Even as a child, I was fascinated by the world of music. My father was a conductor, and I remember the huge orchestra and the wonderful sound it made, all those bows moving together - I thought it was fantastic. But even then I can remember being surprised at the sombre atmosphere during the concerts. Everybody looked so serious, you weren't supposed to cough or laugh, even though the music seemed to me to radiate so much joy! André Rieu fans were delighted earlier this month when the Dutch violinist and conductor announced his plans for a UK and Ireland tour in 2024. This event has become an established tradition in Maastricht. To see Rieu perform in his home town Maastricht is much more than simply swaying along to the music of La Traviata. It is a captivating weekend-long festivity. Whilst there is no real dress code for concerts we do find that people like to dress up! It is a wonderful time to don your favourite dress or suit.
