About this deal

I’m pleased to say that Sonoff ZIGBEE 3.0 USB DONGLE PLUS is plug and play. If you are getting started, follow the installation instructions and plug your device in. Run ls /dev/tty* Initial development started on experimental (alpha stage) support for various ZigGate adapters. This includes all ZiGate compatible hardware adapters which are currently based on NXP Zigbee MCU chips like JN5168 and JN5169 with ZigGate 3.1d firmware or later. ZiGate adapter PS: EFR32MG21 is by the way the same Silabs radio MCU SoC radio chip used in " ITead Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2” (model “ZBDongle-E”) and their previous ITead Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle (Model: 9888010100045). More information about those competing and possibly compatible adapters here:

Enabling Thread and Matter on Sonoff ZBDongle-E

The Z-Wave.Me Wiren Board 7 is a professional multiprotocol controller for home and commercial automation. It is a DIN-rail ready Debian-based computer with Z-Way software and a lot of other open-source software including MQTT broker, device configurators, port configurators. Open source hardware CC2652P and ESP32 based Zigbee to Ethernet Coordinator (left picture), POE variant is also available (right picture) Powerful CC2652P Zigbee USB dongle and Raspberry Pi GPIO module. Available in Ebyte (left picture) and RFSTAR (right picture) version. Based on Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 MCU. EmberZNet Zigbee NCP (coordinator) firmware image builds from ITead available here (opens new window).

If the light on the CC debugger is RED, press the Reset button on the CC debugger. The light on the CC debugger should now turn GREEN. If not, try to reboot and retry or follow the CC debugger user guide open in new window to troubleshoot your problem. Note that the same USB dongle is also sold pre-flashed with Zigbee Router firmware as a lower price and it is reported to act much better as a Zigbee Router than what it does as a Zigbee Coordinator. A set of channels will be created depending on what clusters and endpoints a device supports. Channels are loosely linked to clusters in that for the majority of channels, a single cluster is used. However, some channels may utilise more than one cluster to provide the required functionality. If your purpose is to simply use the device as a Zigbee coordinator, there is no need to flash anything, it ships with NCP firmware version v6.10.3 which is the latest official Zigbee firmware for the ZBDongle-E. If you want to enable Thread support as well, follow along to learn how. Understanding the process

Compare CPU, RAM/Memory, Flash/Storage, radio (Receive Sensitivity, Output Power in dBm, RX and TX mA, etc.), etc. specifications, etc. and so on between EFR32MG21 and ATSAMR21B18 SoC radios.

The required dependencies can be installed with sudo apt install build-essential libusb-1.0-0-dev libboost-all-dev, and the binary compiled with ./configure && make. Do not forget to install the udev rules, as described at https://github.com/dashesy/cc-tool/blob/master/README (opens new window) , or the software might not be able to access the USB programmer. No extra software besides ZigbeeSniffer.jar and Wireshark is needed. Some EZSP keys use the exact same USB identifiers as a brltty udev-registered device, so if your EZSP USB dongle is not recognized by Linux, just disable the rule of brltty for idVendor=1a86, idProduct=7523 (same as the CH340 serial converter used in the EZSP key). Edit / usr/lib/udev/rules.d/85-brltty.rules and comment # ENV{PRODUCT}=="1a86/7523/*", ENV{BRLTTY_BRAILLE_DRIVER}="bm", GOTO="brltty_usb_run". Unplug and replug the EZSP key. # Windows ITead’s “Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2” (model "ZBDongle-E") based on Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 +20dBm radio SoC/MCU NOTE 1: In case you are already running a Zigbee network: reflashing does not require repairing of all devices, see What does and does not require repairing of all devices? The openHAB command line interface provides a number of commands to interact with the ZigBee framework. These can provide useful options for debugging when things aren't going as planned, and can also provide advanced users a means to make changes that are not possible directly through the binding. This section will provide information on a few common issues that users may come up against, but is not an exhaustive user manual for low level ZigBee commands.

Flashing instructions open in new window ( PDF version open in new window and required python script open in new window) or see "Flashing CC1352/CC2652/CC2538 based adapters" below The Channel that should be used can be copied directly from the UI under the Channels-section of the Thing or can be read from the events.log Got to admit though that I don’t fully get “sky” reference for this USB adapter as that is usually used for satellite stuff, I think instead “air” is more commonly used for radio stuff, as in reference to “over-the-air”. The binding table is used within ZigBee to configure devices to send reports to the binding when their state changes. The binding will attempt to set the required ZigBee bindings during device initialisation, but sometimes this can fail. Often this may occur on older devices that have limited memory, and only have a small number of entries in the binding table, and then manual manipulation of the table may be required. The key is defined as 16 hexadecimal values. If not defined, this will default to the well known ZigBee HA link key which is required for ZigBee HA 1.2 devices. Do not alter this key if using with a ZigBee HA 1.2 network unless you fully understand the impact.

Note that ZigBee compliant devices should rejoin the network seamlessly, however some non-compliant devices may not rejoin which may leave them unusable without a manual rejoin. STOP, BURGLAR, FIRE, EMERGENCY, POLICE_PANIC, FIRE_PANIC, EMERGENCY_PANIC, any integer value (for devices supporting warning modes not specified in the ZCL) USB dongle is originally a DIY design from Modkam (Russian speaking Zigbee DIY community) open in new window and it using pre-flashed "SM-011 V1.0" (ZYZBP008) radio module from CoolKit-Technologies open in new window (which has a Silabs EFR32MG21 Zigbee SoC chip on it).

ZigBee has a standard way of configuring how a device sends status reports to the binding - this is called Reporting. Reporting is configured using three pieces of information -: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/itead-s-sonoff-zigbee-3-0-usb-dongle-plus-v2-model-zbdongle-e-based-on-silicon-labs-efr32mg21-20dbm-radio-mcu-now-sold-for-19-99/442695/ Doubt that will be an issue when just selling a physical radio USB adapter, (and not any digital service). These devices have two serial devices built in. Make sure you put the right serial device in the configuration or use auto detect (completely remove the serial section from configuration.yaml) if you only have one Texas Instruments CC device connected to your system.
