About this deal

This is the first book I have read by Simon Lelic and I'd happily read his work again, the new slant to the unique way he has written this book was quite daring but it worked and I would recommend this book as a really good physiological thriller.

The Housemaid: An absolutely addictive psychological thriller

This book tells us the story of Gavin Timothy and Delilah Blue. Gavin lives in a creepy house with its own unique character. The New Neighbors by Simon Lelic is a psychological thriller that is told from alternating points of view of the two main characters. The story starts out being told from each feeling as if it were diary entries as they try to explain what had happened to them after moving into their new home.

She stops me gazing at my feet so much; I stop her floating off into the sky. Great way to introduce the characters. Basically everything you need to know about both of them in one sentence. This book may not be quite as riveting or compelling as some psychological thrillers during the main part of the story but it's still a very intriguing and entertaining read which you want to see to the end nonetheless. And the ending, well I didn't suspect it would go that way and found it very fitting to the main plot. The device used to tell the story makes the writing style very unique. I really enjoyed it. I think Lelic done a marvellous job painting a very real couple, going through extraordinary events, Here are some of my favourite lines from the book.

Oller, Jacob (October 10, 2018). "Why The Haunting of Hill House Proves Novels Belong on Netflix". Paste . Retrieved August 17, 2019. Best Character goes to the Antagonist...The House. Not that I was rooting for the house...well maybe I was, a little. Did you ever see the movie, Monster House... So yes, it IS creepy and scary at times, but in an almost 'good' way if that makes sense? This is the way I like to be scared. It's not senselessly scary and there is a point to everything (like, you get explanations for how and why things came to be the way they were). It really worked for me! In the end, this one really disappointed me (could you tell?). There was none of the promised suspense and grisly drama and it ended it the most predictable way possible. What a shame. The thing is, I’m yours. I don’t belong to anyone but you. I’m scared that you’ll never be mine the same way.”They buy the house and strange things begin to happen. I was thinking this was going to venture into horror or perhaps paranormal…..smells penetrating the walls, gruesome discovery in the attic, and strange happenings.

the House: How to decorate your home with style Mad about the House: How to decorate your home with style

If this really were a Stephen King novel there’d be cats turning into zombies by chapter three. Great nod to the King himself. I loved seeing the female in the alpha role! Delilah was such a treat. Always the one protecting Gavin and making sure he was okay. And guess what, Gavin is fine with it! I think he secretly loves it. Once Delilah enters Gavin’s life, House becomes possessive. Gavin belonged to it and no one else. And even as things violently escalate for Delilah, Gavin must see the truth behind House’s deadly intentions… even if it was the only family he’d ever known. There's also a romance in the book which I absolutely ADORED. Gavin and Delilah? They're so, so sweet and even though some might say it's insta-lovish, I actually don't think so. They're teenagers being in love and experiencing everything for the first time. And the fact that they already "knew" each other when they were younger just makes it work for me. I don't care if it's cheesy and maybe a little rushed, it's freaking adorable and I love both of them a lot! Hill House is a mansion in a location that is never specified but is between many hills. The story concerns four main characters: Dr. John Montague, an investigator of the supernatural; Eleanor Vance, a shy young woman who resents caring for her demanding, disabled mother; [5] Theodora, a bohemian artist; and Luke Sanderson, the young heir to Hill House, who is host to the others. I love keeping folk guessing, sometime it makes them relook at the book or if they haven't read it, they go find out more about it. OK I'm a tease!! The novel has been adapted to film twice, in 1963 and again in 1999, both times under the title The Haunting. The 1963 version is a relatively faithful adaptation and received critical praise. The 1999 version, considerably different from the novel and widely panned by critics, is an overt fantasy horror in which all the main characters are terrorized and two are killed by explicitly supernatural deaths. It was also parodied in Scary Movie 2 (2001). I don't care if we're living in a box under the bridge somewhere. As long as I'm with you, I don't care about the rest."

The House by Christina Lauren | Goodreads

I must admit, reading this book was an experiment - the one I didn't expect anything positive from. I am not a fan of contemporary books by Christina Lauren, but when authors of adult books write YA books, I am always a little bit curious as what will they bring from the other genre and what will they take from this genre. The House turned out to be a rather successful experiment and ultimately I am glad I read this book. a b Fassler, Joe (October 12, 2017). "How Surrealism Enriches Storytelling About Women". The Atlantic . Retrieved August 15, 2019. I am a huge Christina Lauren fan so I was very excited to get my hands on The House! Thank you, Christina for the ARC! I would say that if you enjoyed “Our Little Secret” by Roz Nay, then you might enjoy this as well. It has that same “confessional” feel but with a completely different story. The idea is interesting but in the end I just didn't care about what was happening. It also reminded me of Room by Emma Donaghue in the way that the characters refer to the house as "House" and a lamp as "Lamp" and a bed as "Bed." I get that it's because those things are alive and all, so they are basically characters, but it felt too much like The House was trying to be a weird version of Room.Chiltern Publishing was formed in 2018. Their vision: to create the most beautiful classics, inspired by Jane Austen’s original books. Their goal: usin g a perfect mix of tradition and the very latest in printing techniques. The size and format of the Chiltern Editions are the original format of Jane Austen books. The publishers themselves are saying: The main question: is the House possessed or is it magical? To have an answer you need to read the book. But I will tell that things are not all butterflies and sunshine, and the House is not all that nice. I mostly read this book at night and some things were creepy and scary, and as I am not a fan of horror books, I was kind of wrapped up in my blanket and started to look around suspiciously. You know, reading about a moving, living house in the middle of the night and staying inside the house (in my case, apartment) can give one ideas as what if my table moves by itself or my closet opens and ect. I wasn't very excited at the prospect as you can imagine...
