Let me start out by saying that it’s been quite a while since I’ve used over-ear headphones. Usually I buy in-ear headphones to go with my mobile device, but my use for these is for use with my desktop computer to replace a set of Logitech gaming headphones. The HD599 – according to Sennheiser – lets the listener enjoy their choice of home entertainment with exceptional wearing comfort assured, thanks to the large ear cups and soft, replaceable ear pads. Created with Sennheiser’s “Ergonomic acoustic refinement” (E.A.R.) technology, the headphones have been designed to more effectively channel the audio signal directly into the ears of the listener for a more satisfying listening experience. Offering a step into the world of audiophile sound, the HD599 is a premium headphone for those seeking sophisticated sound, design and build quality. The top-of-the-range model impresses with a natural spatial performance. Also HE4XX that i currently use doesn't have much bass by default, but with some EQ they have it more than enough and its really nice and realistic bass, the sub bass is pretty good ( sounds like my subwoofer, while the 598 for example is artificial af and has pretty much zero sub bass ), but to get the good bass on planars u need good AMP, since its like +12dB ( -12dB preamp ) on low end to compensate the volume. Not really sure about other options in Europe, maybe the cheaper DAC-X6 also ( 910mW ). Or if you're willing to wait longer and pay customs:

Sennheiser HD 599 review - SoundGuys

Every Sennheiser product not just outperforms every other product in the respective category, it also outlives them. All their models have sold in extremely high numbers, making them one of the most popular music brands across the globe. of course I am not giving up on them I love'em too much too give up on them. but I tried to watch movies with them they are not impressive as they are when I am listening to music whit them, I just though I should buy a new one just for movies and gaming even if I have to spent all the money I can earn in 2 months it would be still would worth it. If an even-to-flat sound is your cup of tea, though, you’re better off opting for the slightly more-expensive HD 600 – for a clinical sound, the 600 reigns supreme. According to the company, this headphone has been designed to give the listener some home theatre level voice quality with many comforts. The large ear cups with soft and replaceable ear pads provide the user with immense comfort and an exceptional sound experience. I've been using them on and off with the 598CS and man the 599 is far superior in every single aspect. Even the bass is much better defined on the 599, it goes deeper and is also faster and more precise with no "boom" whatsoever, that's pretty odd for open headphones compared to closed ones! They're also clearer despite this, I mean it, the sound is crystal clear and the soundstage is immense compared to closed cans.

Sennheiser’s Marketing Dpt says the following: “The new HD 500 range has been refreshed with Sennheiser’s elegant contemporary design language, which discretely communicates refinement, purpose and exceptional build quality. The HD 599 features subtle premium design cues that reveal their superior performance at a glance. The HD 599 combines a timeless ivory color scheme with a headband finished with brown stitching which, with the matte metallic detailing on the ear cups and headband, create an immediate impression of substance and quality”. The flexibility of the headphone is yet another outstanding feature of this product. It is much more flexible than any of the higher-end models, and you can use it as roughly as possible. The promise of German engineering is very well delivered by Sennheiser in this headphone. Other features and Price A point of disadvantage with the design is that it does not come with any sound control. You won’t be able to control the volume just with the headphones. You will have to use the device it is connected to. But this disadvantage can be easily overlooked. The amazing amp experience that comes with this headphone will help you enhance the quality of music. Feel and comfort The sound pressure level goes around 106dB, and the total harmonic distortion is set below 0.1%. This is the expected value for the given price. It helps in delivering a clean and crisp sound with ample volume. The amount you pay for these brilliant headphones is justified by each and every specification the company has loaded it with. Specs

Review: Sennheiser HD599 - One Up! - Headfonia Reviews Review: Sennheiser HD599 - One Up! - Headfonia Reviews

You know that's not true, i have 35ohm headphones ( HE4XX ) and they need as much power as HD600 if not more. For example im using FiiO K5 which is 1.5W @ 32ohm but i still can listen on high gain and pretty much maxed out, seems like they need like 3-4W for full potential ( not only for volume, but sound quality too ). Sensitivity is as important as Ohms. On "Don't Drift...", they're essential to the openness of the song. It sounds very spacious in there and you're relaxed. However, it can be a bit overpowering there as sometimes it can distract you from the detail, but more often than not, you will feel relaxed and happy with this mid-bass open on this song. On classical same story. When I listened to RapCaviar though, it becomes the Achille's heel of these headphones. It detracts from the vocals rappin out and overpowers the song along with the Lower-bass. Lower bass is good itself, but if combined with this part of the frequency it just detracts from the song entirely. In the end, the HD599 is poorly tuned in the low and lowermid frequencies and that elads to a messy bottom that just doesn't anchor the sound and leaves the higher frequncies colored and weak. Pretty disappointing overall. They are very comfortable and very stylish and are probably a good successor to the 598, but they aren't for me. You want to treat your ears to audiophile sound quality? This is the Sennheiser HD 5 model for you. With an impressively refined and natural sound and an uncompromising build. You’ve reached your goal. Once you start using headphones that are like 150 ohm, then that's when I'll consider an AMP/DAC combo. It has a very appealing and aesthetic look that will blend well with your fashion sense. Be it a chic look or a funky tomboy, and this headphone is a great pair for all your moods.

Sorry for the late response, but yes I agree with your description. Is it worth trying a HD600 with amp though? I only hear good things about the hd600 and it's in a completely different price class as the hd599, so is this worth considering or are they too similar in sound signature? The company has presented its most contemporary and modern designs in the form of this headphone. It speaks volumes when it comes to communicating enhancement, purpose, and an exceptionally good built. There are subtility and intricacies in its design that will reflect the superiority in performance just by the look of it. After having launched the HD800S and the new HE-1 headphone, Sennheiser decided it was time to update the existing 5XX product line, of which the iconic HD598 is part of. The new HD598 is called the HD599 and that means it’s closer to the HD600, in more ways than you can think.

When it comes to headphones and other music hearing aids, one name shines above all, and that is Sennheiser. Sennheiser has been delivering quality-grade products since 1960 when it first launches the MD421. The company delivers the true sense of German engineering in its products. I’m just learning about how to drive headphones I understand these will give me perfectly acceptable sound on their own. They already sound pretty good plugged into my Creative Sound Blaster Z, but I’m told that it might also be cost effective to use the SBZ as a DAC and buy a separate amp. Fit and Comfort: Very comfortable. Most importantly, it is lightweight and has good padding on the headband. I can wear these for hours without top of the head pain - not something I can say with the HD 600. The earpads make an annoying scratchy noise with my plastic glasses frame - so I take my glasses off when wearing them. Would have been an immediate return in the past for this - fortunately I had eye surgery and wear glasses just to look smart. Very good for long gaming sessions. In fact we have a pair of HD 599 demo unit in our office which, in my opinion, sounds slightly better than the HD 598. I can say that the sound signature of the HD 599 is the same, if not better, than the HD 598. Do keep in mind that due to burn-in and HD 598 will initially sound different than brand new HD 599. But if both are brand new, then they will sound very similar." If you are able to push your budget out and want your cake and eat it with DSD/MQA etc. with a high performance DAC and Decent Amp combo with multiple connectivity and output options and future flexibility, then the best budget all round option right now would be:

HD599? If yes Is there any differences between HD598 and HD599? If yes

When you look at the HD599’s press material you immediately notice this headphone is branded as a top of the line “do-it-all” headphone for watching movies and for listening to music and basically anything that can be done with a headphone. The HD6XX and all the higher end models are marketed as pure audiophile headphones for music listening. If you look at the specifications of this amazing headphone, you will be amazed at what the company has to offer. It comes with a frequency range of 12 to 38,500 Hz, which is truly spectacular. You can vary the sound quality to ample highs and lows for any type of music you feel charmed with. What motherboard do you have? It may just be Sennheiser's sound signature. I find the vocals to be a bit too veiled, and the overall sound too smooth, but this is of course personal opinion and most people love their 599

Though I couldn't find any information about the HD599 SE when googled. so pls provide your valuable inputs.
