Panacur liquid is a 10% oral liquid suspension available as a 100ml bottle for use in adult dogs and cats as well as puppies and kittens. In certain circumstances, your vet may recommend a compounded formulation of fenbendazole. Compounded medications are prescribed if there’s a specific reason your pet’s health can’t be managed by an FDA-approved drug, such as if your pet has trouble taking pills in capsule form, the dosage strength is not commercially available, or the pet is allergic to an ingredient in the FDA-approved medication. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. They are created by either a veterinarian or a licensed pharmacist on an individual basis to best suit a patient’s particular needs. You can learn more about compounded medications here. Fenbendazole Directions Panacur Granules 22.2% is supplied in 1 lb. (454 g) jars. Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children. It’s recommended that dogs and cats over 6 months are given Panacur Granules 2-4 times per year as a precaution. Panacur is generally considered a very safe medication and is one of the safest dewormers on the market. Its active ingredient has a selective affinity for parasitic tissue, which means it usually ignores your dog’s body tissues unless given in very high doses, and even then dogs can tolerate doses up to 100 times higher than recommended. Manufacturers list vomiting as a possible side effect, and some formulations, like Panacur Plus, contain other medications, such as ivermectin and praziquantel, which can have more serious side effects.
