About this deal

Definition: A Gel designed to add length to natural nails by using Dual Forms. Comes in a pot, or in a tube. Like all Bluesky products, Hard Gel can be soaked off using an acetone remover. You can use our Remover Wraps or Acetone and foils to soak off your Hard Gel, just like you would with your normal gel polish manicure. Lasting up to three weeks, a gel polish manicure is easy to soak off with acetone and, as long as it’s applied and removed correctly, causes little damage to the natural nail.

Hard Gel How To Strengthen Nails: Our Top Tips for Using Hard Gel

Regular gel polish is the type of gel that provides the most variety. There are hundreds of shades of gel polish available. You can even buy glitter gel polish in clear or coloured formulas, as well as shimmer topcoats for something different. Unlike gels, acrylics are air-cured and begin to set once applied to the nail. Much like soft gel polish, acrylics are removed by soaking the nails in acetone. Always make sure you follow your chosen gel brand’s instructions to get the best results. This often means only using products from your chosen gel nail system – not mixing one builder gel with another brand’s top coat, for example. It’s an exciting innovation because it’s incredibly strong (just like acrylic) but has the flexibility of gels, making it ideal for strength and durability. The good thing about Polygel is that a lot of experts say it’s one of the safer products to use at home — and you’ve probably seen these tubes all over your FYP. Ready for a hard gel hookup? The key is good products and tools, quality education, flawless application and careful removal. When selecting products, keep in mind that individual brand gel systems are designed to work perfectly together, so for best results, avoid mixing products from multiple manufacturers. Most experts also prefer to apply hard gel with a high-quality synthetic or natural-hair brush with a smaller, firmer brush head for maximum gel control. Lamps are important, too. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for curing times, and change bulbs regularly.Another key difference is how long they last. Dip nails last longer (up to 4 weeks) while acrylics last around 3 weeks on average. Gel nails last up to three weeks and are a great option for people who like a high-shine, chip-free manicure that provides extra everyday protection — ideal for the clumsy among us, counting myself among the “us”.They do not however provide any extra length, so must be applied to your natural nail.

Gels vs acrylics – which one wins? | Nail Polish Direct

Unlike the hard/soft gel polish, which must be cured in a special UV/LED light to harden the polish, the dip method takes very little time to harden and dry with no special light. Benefit: Minimal chemical odors, no light. Pros:It's made up of an acrylic monomer - which, put simply, is chemical term for a group of identical molecules that can be bonded. This is the reason gel cures and sets under UV light, producing that lovely hard, shiny manicure we're all after.

We’ve been seeing different types of nail products and techniques pop up on TikTok, but it can be confusing as hell trying to understand what each enhancement is — even if you’re a regular salon-goer. A guide to the different types of nail enhancements Soft gel polish, often called Shellac (CND’s brand name for this formula), has a more liquid consistency than hard builder gels. It comes bottled and is applied in the same way as nail polish. Discover the top nail products from Salons Direct, recommended by Nail Pros! Hard gel, soft gel, builder gel, gel polish – what’s the difference? A hard gel overlay is a type of manicure that uses a special type of gel to extend the wear of your polish and protect your nails. The gel is applied over your natural nails and then cured under a UV or LED light. Hard gel overlays can last up to 3 weeks with proper care. As a nail technician, you will probably have your own favourite to work with, too. Acrylic hardens within a few minutes without the need for a lamp, while builder gel stays wet until cured under UV or LED light. Some nail techs love the flexibility and control builder gel gives them, as they can continue to move the product around as much as they like, then cure them in seconds when they are happy. It uses gel polish and plastic tips cured under a UV or LED lamp to harden to create the finished enhancement. Although this technique looks fairly simple, it’s actually quite difficult to master if you’re trying it at home. It’s easy to flood your cuticle with too much gel and not properly cure the product, which is where problems like allergies can be a risk. Done correctly though, there are plenty of pros to this enhancement.

Hard Gel Overlay? Everything You Need To Know What is Hard Gel Overlay? Everything You Need To Know

Definition: A gel designed to sculpt strong extensions over sculpting forms or tips. Comes in a pot. It’s a great product for not only using under gel polish for your normal manicure, but it can also be used without a colour coat for a super natural look too. It comes in a bottle and is applied with the brush, just like your gel polish. During application, the natural nail is filed down to create a rough surface where the glue will be placed. Then acrylic powder (polymer) and liquid (monomer) stored in two separate containers are mixed to create a mould to glue onto the nails. If you are careful, or your nail technician is skilled, you don’t need to worry about damage to your nails. Gel extensions or hard builder gels, when long, offer strength and flexibility, so it’s easier to continue with day-to-day tasks. Their overall glossy finish gives them points on appearance, and they feel lighter on natural nails.

Remember that if you want to create extensions, you’ll need to choose a shape and use a form or a tip. All gel polish and Bluesky products should be stored out of direct sunlight and away from heat. You'll also need to make sure you keep your bottles away from your UV/LED lamp when in use as any exposure to light can cause the gel polish to cure in the bottle and become hard and lumpy. To infill, file off the Top Coat and the colour until you reach the Hard Gel. You can then use the same colour of Hard Gel for your infill. After you have finished curing, buff over the nail to smooth down the product. You can then wipe with cleanser and go ahead with your new colour coat and Top Coat. Is Hard Gel and Builder Gel the same? Unlike gel systems, acrylics don’t need a lamp to cure; they harden on their own due to the liquid and powder reaction. This meansyou don’t need to worry about gloves or SPF application. Often referred to as the OG in nail enhancements is acrylics, which really took off in the 80s and 90s thanks to people like Olympian Florence Griffith Joyner (Flo-Jo). They’re not as popular today as they were then, but that doesn’t make them any less of an incredible nail enhancement.
