About this deal

Adding dark furniture wax adds such great depth to a painted piece of furniture. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to add clear wax and dark wax to a piece of furniture.

Intensive colour (two coats): with Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller, apply very thinly to the clean and dry wood surface along the wood grain and spread well. Ventilate well while drying. Apply the second coat – also thinly. Transparent colour (one coat): with Osmo Flat Brush, Oil Finish Applicator Fleece (Hand Pad Holder) or Osmo Microfibre Roller, apply very thinly to the clean and dry wood surface along the wood grain and spread well. Immediately after applying it, wipe off the excess using a clean rag. How much wax you remove is up to you. Remove more if you want just a subtle antique look, such in this chair, or leave most of it if you want it to look beautifully old. You can see that it’s easier to work with dark wax after you apply clear wax to your furniture first.I'm so glad you're here! Have we officially met? My name is Medina and I am an IKEA-loving-Upcycling-junkie, DIY-passionate-home-decor-crazy-renter, mother and wife. A mouthful huh?

Liquid Beeswax with Pure Turpentine is a traditional liquid wax that nourishes wood and gives an authentic finish to furniture.... the longer the wax stays on, the harder the wax gets. If I’m selling a piece of furniture, I make sure to not move it/transport it for a good week so the wax has time to really set and hardenwaxing replaces having to use a polyurethane coat and is typically used over chalk-type paints or Fusion Mineral Paint (FMP is an acrylic but goes on like a chalk type paint). One of the simplest and most beautiful ways to give an antique look to a piece of painted furniture is by applying dark wax. Sand wood surface carefully, begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding work for flooring P120-150, for furniture P220-240. Left side: Apply some dark furniture wax over the clear wax. You only need to add a tiny amount. Dip your brush into the pot and brush on over the clear wax.

I hope this guide on how to use dark wax on furniture has helped you to feel confident to try it yourself! Wood grain remains visible with ‘transparent’ tones and wood grain is hidden (after two coats) of ‘intensive’ tones.Regular Cleaning: Dust mopping using the green Dust-Mop from the Osmo Mop Cleaning Kit for Floors. Damp mopping using Osmo Wash and Care or Osmo Spray-Mop. Other household cleaning products such as vanish, bleach, baking soda etc. are likely to cause severe discolouration or staining.

Why sealing it first? Water-based sealers and wax don’t mix so if, for example, you you apply polycrylic on your waxed piece, you will get a messy coat of both products that won’t dry and will come off on your hands and clothes. (Yes, I learned it the hard way). Also, if you apply clear wax on top of your dark wax, the second will remove the first. Wood grain remains visible with transparent tones and wood grain can be hidden with intensive tones For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Mahogany, Merbau etc.), we recommend applying Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. Trial application is recommended. Two coats can be applied on wooden furniture, doors and joinery, but only one coat on flooring – as a second coat of Osmo Polyx®-Oil is required. You can use a cheap brush or a wax brush to apply the wax. Make sure you remove loose bristles before using it.

On the left side, I’m going to be applying clear furniture wax to the chair first. On the right side, just dark wax. Lightly coloured glazing effect: within 20 minutes after applying the coat, wipe with a cloth or a white pad along the wood grain.
