Glad I found this recipe. Was looking for one that didn’t use wafers. Used Wild Turkey in mine. What I want to use I can’t get in the States anymore, Canadian Club Sherry Cask. If anybody can get it, try it and let me know how it was. This recipe is also perfect for making cakesicles or cake pops, where you usually need more than just one batch. Shelf life I love making homemade Christmas gifts – I’m not in any way a crafty person at all – my strengths lie in the kitchen! the perfect homemade Christmas gift

These cake truffles remind me a type of cake dessert sold in a sweet shops when I was growing up. It was quite large (like 4-5 cm) and round and was called ‘ the potato’. Probably not the nicest name anyone could have invented, but I guess it was because the cake ball was not perfectly round and rolled in cocoa powder resembling the actual potato. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until all the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth. These Rum truffle with cake crumbs are fairly straightforward to make, so hopefully you won’t have any difficulties in making these. Yes, you can use any type of alcohol that you like. Just keep in mind that different types of alcohol will give the truffles different flavors. You can easily swap a normal sponge cake for a gluten-free one to create truffles suitable for people with gluten sensitivity. You can also use a chocolate cake instead of Madeira cake for extra chocolate taste. But you don’t need to save this recipe for your holiday baking. Homemade chocolate truffles are perfect for any occasion, and you can get creative with different fillings and decorations. What are truffles? If you want to, you can also leave out the rum if you are making these with children or use rum essence (you’ll need about one teaspoon, depending on the strength of your essence). The rum can be swapped for any other alcohol, but flavour wise rum seems to work well with chocolate. Remove from the heat and pour into a heatproof mixing bowl. Allow to cool slightly for a few minutes before stirring in the cake crumbs, rum and icing sugar. The mixture will be quite soft at this stage. Dan Cake Rum Truffles can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. They can also be frozen for up to 1 month. Thaw the truffles in the refrigerator before serving. Tips: Happy baking everyone! I’m sitting here thinking of these babies that are in the freezer and wondering if I can sneak one… Icing Sugar – these truffles are pretty dark and rich, so I add a little icing sugar to take the edge off all that richness.

I am an experienced baker and made the cake, as per the attached link, and it turned out so spongy and springy with very little taste. The chilling time isn’t a strict guide – it may take a little under or over an hour depending on how cold your fridge runs. Chill the truffle mixture until it has firmed up but is pliable enough to roll into balls. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the vegan chocolate chips. Stir until all the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth. To be on a safe side, eat these truffles within 7 days, although their actual expiry date might be a little longer than that. You only need 4 ingredients to make these easy boozy truffles. This homemade rum truffle recipe is easy and even fun to make. Making these Christmas truffles is one of my holiday traditions. Making these easy boozy truffles at home Rum – the better quality of the rum, the better your truffles will taste! A spiced rum is especially nice and feels suitably festive.
