About this deal

On the outside edge of the second metal piece, secure it to the wall with the spacers like you did the first piece.

Heat shields, when installed correctly, reduce the space you need from the stove to the wall by 2/3, and from the stove to the ceiling by 1/2.As such, when you’re selecting a heat shield you should have first measured the width of both your stove and your hearth. How should heat shields be installed? When combustible materials are sat too close to a heat source such as a stove, they will deteriorate on a molecular level as they repeatedly heat up and cool down over time.

A heat shield with good air circulation protects combustible material from pyrolisis and fire and the clearance reduction gives you more room! Here at Direct Stoves, we favour the use of vitreous enamel heat shields. This is because vitreous enamel is non-combustible, heat resistant up to 650ºC and is an excellent conductor of heat. The less obvious answer is that even though it may SEEM like you have enough clearance between your stove and combustible material...it's not always that obvious. It should be noted that there is no ‘legal’ minimum distance to combustibles, only what’s recommended by the manufacturer and the stove installer, but these guidelines are there to keep you and your home safe and they are worth adhering to. No HETAS engineer will install a stove below the minimum distance, so it’s best to ensure you have plenty of wriggle room to save any hassle. Heat ShieldsSo, without proper safeguards, a wood stove configuration may SEEM fine, but over time the degradation of material slowly lowers its ignition threshold, then suddenly you have a house fire on your hands! Once the first couple of screws are in, line up the second piece of metal, and, through the predrilled holes, screw them together with sheet metal screws. (You shouldn't put mounting hardware spacers directly behind the stove because they would conduct heat to the combustible walls.)

Simply put, a combustible material is anything that can ignite and burn. Some of the more obvious examples of combustible materials are flammables like curtains and bedding, or things made from paper or wood like a coffee table or bookshelf, but there are some things that may not immediately jump to mind that are just as dangerous. For example, settees and other furniture made from fabric (especially cotton) and even plasterboard and wooden beams inside walls are combustible and could be ignited by the heat of your stove if they’re too close.

I would get a couple of screws into the top edge...but not tighten them down at this point to give myself a little "wiggle-room" to get the other holes lined up. The Hobbit Stove is a small cast iron multi-fuel stove that is able to burn wood, coal, or eco logs, and it fully complies with the new Eco Design 2022 regulations, which makes it suitable for any installations after the 1st January 2022. The Hobbit Stove is specifically designed for installations where the space for a stove might be more limited, and this makes our stove the ideal choice for small fireplaces where larger stoves simply won’t fit.
