About this deal

It is an excellent entry-level option, but the ones above are all better the more a person rides outdoors. Two types of these well-designed, high-quality muffs are available for both bikes with handguards (motocross, adventure etc.) and regular handguard-free motorbikes. The good news is that most of the options can come on and off in a matter of seconds. It is not one of those things that need to be installed and kept on for the rest of the season. The mitts also come with a storage pouch, so people do not need to add an extra bag to the bike. The company understands that this already adds some bulk to the bike, so there is no reason to also travel with a standard bag attached somewhere else.

Bar Mitts Products – Bar Mitts

If your winter is more wet than snowy, we recommend Showers Pass Crosspoint Waterproof gloves. If you’re looking for the ability to have prune-free hands while still handling like a boss, these gloves are exactly what you need. We’ve tried waterproof gloves before and found that they’re often bulky and tough to handle, but these feel like regular thin gloves, just … drier. We don’t recommend them for temperatures below 40, but if you’re riding in a rainstorm in 45ºF weather, you’re in good hands with these. No one should ever not invest in a set of bike pogies if they are considering riding a fat bike during cold weather. There is enough room to put some of the essentials like a phone, CO2 pump, wallet, or other riding supplies. We like how they attach to the bar end, meaning you can fit them when it gets cold and forget about them until it’s time to take them off. Bar Mitts has been in the pogie game for so long that many people use “bar mitts” as a generic term when referring to pogies. While they were one of the first pioneers in the pogie market, their products still have a basic, bare-bones design and are easy to use and install Specs

The good news is that there are some great bike pogies for people to invest in so that they do not have to deal with too much discomfort while riding. These can help people stay warm, and protect against any type of injuries on the fat bike as well. In addition to things like waterproofing and windproofing, we like to look for few other features, too. A large terrycloth nose-wipe section on the index finger is key if you’re a heavy snotter (no judgment here). We also like some kind of smart phone enabled addition to the index finger so you can at least answer calls without taking gloves off. And of course, bonus features like padding for mountain bikers, electric heating elements for fat bikers, and little loops to help pull gloves on and off are great bonuses. If you’ve never used them before, there’s a bit of a learning curve to riding with pogies. Specifically, you can’t keep pulling your hands off the bars to fiddle with things, take drinks, etc., as naturally as you would without pogies–it takes a little extra forethought. However, the ease of moving your hands in and out of the pogies depends largely on whether or not you have the cuffs installed.Extremities are the first parts of the body to get cold on a mid-winter fat bike ride and the last to warm up. As they say, the best defense is a good offense, and the easiest way to combat cold-fingered misery is to keep your fingers from getting cold in the first place. Enter the Extreme Cold Mountain Mitts pogies from Bar Mitts. Waterproofing is not as important as you might think. Your gloves are (probably) already waterproof, and it’s the insulation and reduction of windchill that help keep you warm in muffs. That said, if money is not an issue, buying a waterproof option will keep you warmer in the very worst of conditions. However, if I wasn’t using electronic shifting, I don’t think the smalls would have enough space for a full shift lever movement. And, as I encountered, the smaller opening does restrict my movement a little bit. I tried the larger mitts and they do indeed offer more freedom of movement but also take up more space, let in a bit more air and are all around bulkier. Every different location needs something slightly different when riding a bike. For some people, they can get by with a little lighter coverage, because it does not get quite as cold. This still provides a very close-fitting design so that the hands are closed off from anything outside.
