About this deal

The cream form, with its more fluid texture, is better suited to skin irritations with a larger surface area and is more easily absorbed by the skin. A313 pure vitamin a pommade offers the same retinoic acid effect on wrinkles and fine lines, at a slightly lower concentration than avibon. A313 pommade comes in the same pommade form as avibon. Visible scientifically proven results on fine lines and facial wrinkles, eliminates eczema and dry skin on the lips and hands. A313 works great on acne scars, enlarged pores, and even scars and stretch marks. The pommade tones the skin without overdrying like other retinoid products - works great on sensitive skin and is an excellent anti-aging product. Risk of hypervitaminosis A: Be careful, as there is a risk that vitamin A passes into the blood, this cream should not be applied to a large area of skin, under a closed bandage, on damaged skin, in particular burnt, on a mucous membrane, in premature babies and very young children or during prolonged treatment. However, this plumped appearance is temporary. You would need to use the A313 almost every single day to reap those plumping benefits, which have absolutely nothing to do with the vitamin A content.

As we mentioned before, there are a ton of different formulas out there when it comes to retinol. For example, many retinol products come in a cream or moisturizer form, which can be great for an added dose of moisture, however, they have their downsides. "To avoid acne flares, a light formulation, not a heavy cream is the way to go," says Dr. Wexler. Meanwhile, Zaborowski prefers serums as they tend to be less irritating and have great absorption. All in all, it's best to consider your skin needs when choosing a formula. If redness or irritation occurs, consult your dermatologist and re-evaluate the concentration, frequency, and formulation. The Best Retinol Creams To answer all of your burning retinol questions, we looked to the experts to decode the ingredient in the simplest terms. Ahead, we broke down the need-to-know info to add retinol into your routine, including the shopping tips and our favorite retinol creams and serums to date. What Is Retinol? Alas, I didn’t make it there before the manufacturer, Sanofi, suddenly discontinued it in 2013. According to a trade publication at the time: “Sanofi has stopped marketing its Avibon vitamin A skin ointment in France. After batches of the ointment were recalled in March 2013 due to ‘product stability’ problems, Sanofi’s ‘various attempts at improvement’ had not resulted in ‘a product that met current quality standards.’” 2You can also use it on any eye-area wrinkles. Just don’t go too close to the lash lines, and use it more sparingly there, because you don’t want it to seep into your eyes. 4. Moisturizer Optional The following morning I awoke to the most beautiful plump skin. What is this wizardry? I don’t think I have ever been so confused. This new information seemed to make sense. However, after our call I decided to do a little bit more research into the additional ingredients, and to be honest, I really do not know how I feel about my discovery. In case the name Shani Darden isn't ringing any bells, she's the woman perfect the glows of Jessica Alba, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Shay Mitchell. The celebrity esthetician created this serum and it's now reached cult status among her celeb clientele and for good reason. Combining retinol and lactic acid, this serum has some serious firming and smoothing powers. Lactic acid is also a star exfoliating ingredient, so your skin will appear brighter while keeping acne at bay. And because this formula uses encapsulated retinol, it's a gentler option out of the bunch. Drunk Elephant's retinol cream has long been a favorite among beauty editors because it produces some serious results. A little dollop of this cream goes a long way with this completely vegan formula. While it includes a potent amount of retinol (coming in at 1 percent), a triple peptide blend that works to strengthen and firm the skin is what takes this option up a notch. For even more firming power, the formula also includes Vitamin F, an ingredient that makes the skin look firm and supple.

Farooq, U., Mahmood, T., Shahzad, Y., Yousaf, A. M. & Akhtar, N. (2018). Comparative efficacy of two anti-aging products containing retinyl palmitate in healthy human volunteers. Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. 2018 Jun; 17(3): 454-460.

Vitamin A comes in a variety of forms, with all forms doing the same thing, just at different strengths.

What is retinyl palmitate? It’s not retinol—but it is another type of retinoid called a retinyl ester. Retinyl esters are the mildest vitamin A derivatives, because they need to be converted three times within the skin: first to retinol, then to retinaldehyde, and finally to retinoic acid (the active form of vitamin A). 3I will confess that I did not do that. I jumped right in with nightly applications, since I’d already been using Shani Darden Retinol Reform (reviewed here). Although that product has since been reformulated, its active ingredient at the time was a retinyl ester, so I figured A313 would be similar.
