About this deal

This mixer has Onyx preamplifiers. It is already printed on the metal surface of the small mixer. These low-noise preamps are not only known for their good sound. Next up are the EQs, and you’ll get a high, mid, and low knob on all four of the mono channels, while the first stereo channel isdecidedly less equipped with only high and low knobs. The remaining knobs include an aux send, FX send, panning, and an overall mix level. The aux send is pre-fader, while the FX send is post-fader — just something to keep in mind while in use. The second stereo channel can serve as either another stereo input, an FX return, a USB return from your DAW, or a source for the FX built in to the console. The third and final stereo input can only be taken from USB, and used to blend with the aux bus or mix bus with PFL. Save where the Software forms part of a Product, this EULA (including any Allen & Heath addendum or amendment to this EULA which is included with the Software and the licences referenced in clause 2) constitutes the entire agreement between You and Allen & Heath relating to the Software and the support services (if any), and they supersede all prior or contemporaneous oral or written communications, proposals and representations with respect to the Software or any other subject matter covered by this EULA. To the extent the terms of any Allen & Heath policies or programs for support services conflict with the terms of this EULA, the terms of this EULA shall prevail over such conflicting provisions.

Allen & Heath's marketing blurb suggests that the ZED series is 'perfect' for live mixing, and while that might be hyperbole, it would certainly serve well in that capacity, where most of the effects and the tap tempo would certainly come in handy. The level knobs are inevitably more fiddly than faders, though, and I know which I'd prefer to have on a dimly lit stage! However, I think that the primary market for this mixer should be the home studio, and anyone looking to make decent‑quality band demo recordings. The monitors can be fed by the main mix or by the headphones mix, your choice being enacted via a single button that appears just before the monitor level control in the signal path. The level is indicated by a 12‑section stereo (so 24 sections in total) LED meter, which is clearly calibrated. A pad circuit is available for channels 1-4, which lowers the input signal by 26 dB. Also, channels 1-8 have a high-pass filter working at 12 dB octave. It cuts off frequencies below 80 Hz. The outputs going from the mixer are slightly different as you can choose what is on the second pair of channels (3&4) using the USB OUT switches as follows: As the name suggests, the ZED10 FX is a 10‑channel mixer with onboard effects, but it also includes a stereo USB audio interface, capable of 24‑bit, 48kHz conversion, along with some useful routing options, which I'll discuss later. Also bundled with the mixer is a free version of IK Multimedia's X‑Gear amp and cabinet modelling software, which offers a few very good-quality models, and is arguably a more useful addition than the usual cut‑down DAW software. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers.

Two further differences can be seen: For channels one and two, simple on/off limiters from dbx can be switched on, channels five and six also have Hi-Z levels at the touch of a button. I think that's a clever distribution of the goodies. This way, I can prevent two microphones from clipping and still supply the electric bass and electric guitar. It’s all well and good that the Allen & Heath ZEDi-10FX is laid out well and looks nice, but none of that matters if it doesn’t sound good. Thankfully, it does. Then, there are the effects. These effects are optimized for send and return use, so they’re all time-based — that’s to say you’ll get reverbs, delays, and some modulation effects. You get a hefty 61 presets, and you can adjust parameters and save presets yourself. Really they’re a dream for live engineers working in small settings. Again, in a studio situation you may find yourself relying a little more on in-the-box solutions — but in a live setting, where you don’t want to lug around a lot of gear, the effects included are versatile, sound great, and are easy to use. ConclusionsIn the middle of the console are the FX controls. On the right side of the consoleyou’ll find the master section, which has a long-throw fader, headphone controls, aux and monitor controls, and a phantom power switch — which is global. Trusted Shops Allen & Heath has been a trusted name in professional audio since 1969. The ZED technology advances, but the commitment to audio excellence and build quality endures.

ZEDi-10FX combines the robustness and hands-on control of an analogue mixer with a high quality 4 x 4 USB interface and an outstanding multi-model FX unit, making it a perfect all-round choice for musicians, recording artists and venues. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail. All ZED mixers are designed and built to Allen & Heath’s legendary touring grade standards to ensure a long life in the toughest environments. All channels are on individual, vertical circuit boards and all rotary controls are secured to the front panel with a steel nut to guard against impact damage. Made for Guitars Gone are the days when, to get started with audio recording, you needed to carefully select each and every component in the recording chain: yes, there are still plenty of options if you want to do that, but in recent years we've seen a glut of well‑specified analogue mixers with on‑board A‑D and D‑A conversion, and either Firewire or USB connectivity — so that they can be plugged straight into your computer without the need for a third‑party audio interface. That leaves you needing only a microphone and a set of monitors or decent headphones to complete a basic hardware setup. Apart from little things like that, however, the Allen & Heath ZEDi-10FX is a very capable and useful little mixer. We tried recording a range of different instruments on the console, and while we’ll go into how that sounded later on, the experience was very fluid and easy. TheGSPre micr pres have a ton of headroom for almost all situations, and the EQ’s, which have a smart Q that’s automatically controlled by the console, are absolutely simple.

Allen and Heath ZEDi-10FX Overview

Beneath the level pot is a tell‑tale sign that there's an on‑board audio interface: a button labelled 'record', with which you can assign the channel's output to the USB output, for recording in your DAW, and, beneath that, a 'listen' button, which similarly routes the signal to the 'phones output (of which more later).
