About this deal

Strong stainless steel construction with removable, ceramic inner pot and dishwasher safe glass lid The slow cooker is pretty easy to clean. What I would say is don’t leave it too long before you wash it out though as it will be harder work. But with a good scrub the pot and lid come up nice and clean, ready for the next use. Results This round slow cooker features three heat settings (low, high, and keep-warm) and is oven-safe for browning. Not only does it excel at casseroles, curries, chilli, soups, and desserts, but it’s also energy-conscious. Having a slow cooker is a great addition to the kitchen. It’s a fantastic way to prepare healthy and hearty meals that can be ready straight after work. This is incredibly helpful with a busy job and family life to juggle. I have the Vonshef slow cooker in a 6.5l capacity. I get asked a lot whether I would recommend it, so here are my thoughts. Size and aesthetics litre capacity with a maximum working capacity of 900ml – ideal if you’re cooking for one or rustling up a meal for family or friends.

It’s not suitable to use on the hob, and the ceramic cooking pot shouldn’t be placed on any surface affected by heat. A trivet or an insulated pad is recommended.

Slow Cooker reviews over… which is the winner?

Where rice-to-water ratios are absent in the instructions, we default to using a 1:1 ratio for basmati rice and 1:2 ratio for wholegrain rice, as these are the most widely accepted ratios for these rice types that we could find. All of the rice we cook is rinsed thoroughly before cooking. We really like VonShef products so the VonShef Slow Cooker would be a good choice for us, however the Swan Slow Cooker also looks great. What might sway the outcome for us though is the reliability and years of manufacturing knowledge that comes with buying the Morphy Richards Slow Cooker.

Use canned or fully pre-cooked kidney beans; dried beans should always be fully cooked before added to a recipeThe Breville produces one or two hearty meals, so it's not good for batch cooking, but on the plus side it doesn’t take up very much space at all: perfect for a student, who can use it to elevate a sausage and baked bean casserole, or perhaps for a single person to keep in a pied-a-terre flat. The 200-watt power usage ensures low electricity consumption, making it an economical choice compared to conventional ovens. Featuring three temperature settings – High, Low, and Auto – this slow cooker adapts to your cooking needs. If you are looking to lose weight or keep the weight off then these three slow cooker diet recipe books could be very useful:

Extremely safe to use, the slow cooker can be left on while you’re at work or sleeping, so you’re never far from a freshly cooked meal - without needing to spend all evening in the kitchen. Some rice cookers can also be used to steam meat and vegetables. Those that can will come with a steamer tray that sits above where your rice and water sits during cooking. Plenty of rice cookers come with recipes for steamed meals you can enjoy with your rice. Other rice cookers can double up as pans or sauté pans. They provide consistent and even cooking, extending the lifespan of the appliance and promoting safety with features like automatic shut-off. Furthermore, their programmable settings offer convenience, while their reduced heat generation is beneficial in warmer climates. What Makes an Energy-Efficient Slow Cooker? 1. Low Wattage Energy-efficient slow cookers not only lower electricity or gas bills but also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. When using a rice cooker, take care to avoid steam vents and avoid touching any part of the cooking pot that might be exposed. In short... everything. Slow cooking food is healthy and tasty and it's not dangerous to leave your favourite foods simmering away. Root vegetables and potatoes take longer to cook than meat and should be thinly sliced or placed near the sides or bottom of the cooking bowl, because of their starchy cellular structure. This Morphy Richards 1.5L Slow Cooker is an attractive slow cooker with a small footprint, so it is perfect for small kitchens and motorhomes. The most commented feature about this item is that it is perfect for two people – or a big meal for one if you’re feeling greedy! Reviewers often mention that it is easy to clean and simple to use. We cook supermarket own-brand white basmati rice and wholegrain rice in each rice cooker, always following the rice cooker's instructions on water-to-rice ratios (where given).

Rice-to-water ratios vary As you'll find from reading the instructions, rice cookers have varying requirements for rice-to-water ratios. Several of the models we tested had different ratios for the same types of rice. That depends on which rice cooker you're using. All should at least be able to cook white, basmati and brown/wholegrain rice; however, some can also cook other types, such as risotto or sushi rice. We assess how simple each rice cooker is to set up for the first time, how helpful the instructions are for assembling it, and the advice it gives on capacities and water-to-rice ratios. Advice on cooking times is also a plus. Simply add your ingredients to the slow cooker, select the required heat setting and leave the appliance to work its magic. With the usual three standard settings – high, low and medium – and a capacity which produces around three or four surprisingly generous portions, this slow cooker does what it says on the proverbial tin. Pre-browning meat and poultry prior to cooking seals in the moisture, intensifies the flavour, and provides more tender results. Let us begin by looking at the Swan 1.5L Slow Cooker (SF17010N). Swan is a British brand with a long history. They have always been well known for their quality kitchen products, but it has been quite a while since I have seen their products for sale. I’m glad to see that they are still around although it appears that they have been through the mill a little. Fortunately, they are now owned by Tefal so you can be sure that they have a quality company supporting them. Not everything benefits from the slow cooker: while slow cooking turns tough joints tender, it can render lean cuts leathery, and more delicate vegetables like courgettes and peas can end up mushy.
