About this deal

Personally, this one is not my favorite. And what was even more unusual is that I tried it after originally writing this article. But… not as a dessert! My mother-in-law served it as a meal, which surprised me. So it can be eaten as either, a light dessert or a sweet main meal. This soft, salty, somewhat gritty and often strong cheese is the key to a proper mamaliga. Or just enjoy it as is. Many places sell this in markets around Romania, but our favourite was when we were in Bran. There are plenty of cheese and meat stalls just outside of Bran Castle. Traditional Romanian Desserts Gălușka cu Prune As Romanian food tradition dictates, it is always served with bread, sour cream, and hot peppers. Ciorba de perisoare Occasionally, makers of plăcintă cu urdă will veer from tradition. Because of its simple preparation, it’s easy to get creative with additional ingredients for this pie. Orange zest, vanilla sugar, rum syrup, grated apples, and other various fillings are common variations.

Located right in the heart of the city but this hotel is like a retreat in the middle of the madness that can be Bucharest.Popular brands include Cotnari, Jidvei, Murfatlar, and Beciul Domnesc. As far as expensive and old wines are concerned, it depends on the supplier of each restaurant. 43. Țuică – Romanian Plum Brandy The process of smoking the bacon imparts a deep, woodsy flavor. At the same time, the paprika adds a touch of sweet and smoky spice, making it a savory treat enjoyed in thin slices or incorporated into a myriad of Romanian dishes to enhance its flavor with its rich, smoky notes. Romanian Soups 8. Ciorbe Literally translated as “Small ones” because traditionally Mici were only the size of an adult finger. They are truly succulent and delicious, which explains why they are so popular at barbeques, street food, cottage weekends, and birthday celebrations.

If you can’t make it to a winery, Paine si Vin in Bucharest has an amazing selection of wine and very knowledgeable staff. Romania Drink: Spirits Some will say that while visiting Romania, whether in Transylvania or lesser-known parts of the country, you will feast your eyes on some fantastic natural beauties and ancient architecture. Placintă translates to ‘pie’ in Romanian and you can find many variations of these Romanian desserts with different fillings. Some of them can be made as a layered cake, while some are more like a sponge cake, but all of them have a deliciously creamy filling. Another dish Hungarian in origin, but one that you will find on virtually every traditional Romanian restaurant’s menu. While it may not be made this way in a restaurant, if you’re eating at someone’s home, there’s a good chance it will be cooked in a ceaun (pictured above). A hearty meat and vegetable ‘soup,’ it is seasoned with paprika, among other spices.Especially nice for a cold winter night, this soup is perfect and filling. We have a great recipe with a couple of variations as well. Kneading this dough is very demanding, and it takes a long while to get it done. However, the results are incredible, and Romanians cannot imagine Christmas or Easter without it. It is a staple dessert to enjoy after a Romanian Christmas dinner. This is the name of any meat or vegetable stew. Romanians can be very creative in their combinations, and traditional Romanian food recipes are as varied as the cooks themselves, so you wait and see what you find on the menu. Throughout the centuries,Romanian food recipes suffered the influence of many different cultures. Such werethe Saxons and Hungarianswho settled in Transylvania, the Greeks with whom Romanians traded, or the Turkswho dominated the country for centuries. But despite these influences, Romanian cuisine has keptits identity and taste unaltered.
