Before we dive into these new rules, we’d like to thank Games Workshop for providing us with a preview copy of the new Kill Team Chalnath boxed set, which contained these rules and models for the new kill teams.

The Novitiates version of the Dakka Boy these operatives are straightforward and deadly. Armed with the Ministorum Flamer, +1 damage on crits and Inferno 1 on top of a normal Flamer, these operatives would already be a strong choice. Their Burning Advance (1 AP) ability takes them to the next level by allowing them to perform a Dash followed by a Shoot Action. Additionally, they have a ploy that further increases their damage making them one of the deadliest operatives in the game, and a nightmare on Into the Dark maps. Novitiate Pronatus Acts of Faith are a new addition that have you keep a pool of Faith Points that you can spend to gain interesting effects. At a minimum this gives you three more command rerolls a turn, but there are more expensive acts where you can convert failures into successes or successes into criticals that let you change your dice at key moments of the game to make sure a target dies or a key model stays alive. More on these later on. Inferno On the whole, the current Kill Team meta is very healthy, with solid balance that leads to 13-15 out of 21 factions currently showing competitive strength. The Novitiates have a lot of rules that take effect in a certain area of the killzone. This gives them a presence on the table that makes up for their relatively low model count for a team with an average of 7 Wounds. Here are a few examples: The penitent is a better version of the Penitent in the Compendium list. She has an autopistol, giving her some ranged ability, and an eviscerator with 4 dice, 4+ to hit, 5/6 Brutal and Reap 2. Reap is situational and dependent on enemy models being close to each other, but if you can multi charge this model rewards you for it, as Absolution Through Destruction means that for 1AP you get two Fight actions together. This means you can, with reasonable dice, chainsaw your way through a couple of guard equivalents in your activation, or chop up a marine equivalent. To make your first Fight action even more likely to succeed, Zealous Rage means that in your first Fight action of the turn you can reroll any or all of your dice, to get as many hits and crits as possible. This event gives us two Imperial Navy, Gellerpox, Pathfinders, two Intercessors, one Wrymblade, and one Blooded team in our top 8. So again a solid mix, with 6 unique teams in the top 8, but some repeats of prior events that help us develop a picture of what the top teams may be.

Frag Grenade (2 EP)– Good if you’re facing a horde team with Gaunts or guard equivalents, but not great against anything like marines. Normal advice regarding Frag grenades applies, and they’re 2EP for Novitiates as they are for everyone else. Unflinching determination means Novitiate models within three inches and visible can reroll a defence dice when they get shot at. Heading over to England, let’s take a look at the LWG Season 1 event, which had 36 players and was the country’s biggest event this year, taking place entirely on closed/Gallowdark terrain:Let’s start off by saying that there’s no doubt in the best possible Loadout for the Sister Superior – it’s Plasma Pistol and Power Weapon (as it’s the best choice with every other faction leader that has those options available). Those deal the most damage and come with the best special rules. Also, the Power Sword gives us the option to possibly use the Superior in melee combat.
