I used two Pyrex jugs – all you need is two microwave safe dishes, bowls, jugs, or mugs, that are BOTH large enough to hold the custard. For the mixing, I just used a regular fork. More recently though, I’ve found it increasingly difficult to find instant custard powder for sale at the supermarkets I was shopping at. There are said to be food shortages and empty shelves – something that never bothered me much as I always thought I’d find what I wanted another time, in another shop, but that’s been more rare.

Liquid, crystal, or pellet lye has the same chemical properties. When the lye is entirely dissolved, add it to the mixture. Stand away from it for a few minutes, and don’t inhale the noxious smells. Soak the Pyrex dish in a lye solution of 10% for at least an hour. Before you begin mixing, ensure that you are well-protected.Pour the hot milk into the jug that contains your custard powder/sugar/milk. Give this a really good stir so it’s all mixed together (I use a fork). Double-Walled Insulation: The jug features a double-walled design, which provides excellent insulation.
