About this deal

This book begins with the suicide of one of the oldest residents in town, which was very unexpected. The story then goes on to explain part of Ledwardine’s history, where Wil Williams, a 17th century priest was murdered and hanged for witchcraft. Stephen Adler- a homosexual actor obsessed with this event- then decides to produce a play about Wil William’s death with his partner. This doesn’t bode well with some of the old families, who are fearful about the secrets that will be unveiled with the staging of the play. There is the new woman in the village who is a bit too famous and a bit too interested in Merrily, as well as her husband. There is Bliss’ marriage, which may be falling about. There is the woman whose sewage semester needed to be dug up and oopsie there’s a body. She will become the new Deliverance Minister, a term that was created to give her position a less frightening air. Jane, her daughter, doesn’t approve of her new job. Merrily's daughter Jane still comes across as a stronger character... tho then suddenly vulnerable while intoxicated, and again the women are weaker/weakened 😕😬

Lucy, the pagan presence that has willed the whole collection of stories into being. review contains spoilers, and mentions a fair bit of stuff in the novel that should probably have content warning: mostly violence/threat of violence towards women. ☠💀🌟 There is a bit of artistic license in the fact that the murders are linked to an infamous real life serial killer who was convicted at around the time this book was written, and I guess this adds to making the story itself seem a bit more believable. The second novel in this series was adapted into a Television drama by ITV. The story was released in three parts in 2015. Anna Maxwell Martin played the role of Merrily Watkins. And the Japanese agency that hires out fake friends and family members for people whose real ones don’t measure up (if anyone starts one up over here, let me know). And the Texas couple who share their house with a two-tonne buffalo. Do you though, RC and Sherron, do you really? Does Wild Thing the wild plains buffalo actually have the run of your house when the cameras aren’t there (it does look very tidy). Or are you just looking for a bit of attention? Having enrolled at a theology college, she started working as a curate in Liverpool, and then moved to Herefordshire, where she becomes the priest-in-charge in a country parish known as Ledwardine. She eventually becomes a Deliverance Consultant/exorcist. Jane works alongside an assortment of quirky characters to make Watkins’ life harder than it needs to be.

This small town looks very peaceful and almost boring at first, but Merrily soon discovers that it has a history of horrific unsolved murders, pagan rituals and superstitions. With the help of psychologists, new found friends and the town’s police department, Merrily is able to solve some of the problems that plague this little Gothic town. We then get to see more about Jane when her friend Colette mysteriously disappears after claiming to see visions in an ancient apple orchid.
