About this deal

WarCom: New to the Seraphon stable are the Raptadon and Aggradon mounts – how did you approach these units? Emma’s Tzaangors have a vibrant, old-school colour scheme that uses Contrast for almost everything, from their pastel skin to their earthy horns – she’s even used layers of Contrast paint to give a metallic look to their golden weapons and trim. That’s it, your Saurus is done! If your shield has areas that you want to make stone, like I did on mine, just follow the same steps from the stone weapon.

Axlotl - Chaqua - Chupayotl - Hexoatl - Huanabic - Huatl - Hualotl - Itza - Konquata‎‎ - Oyxl - Pahuax - Quetza - Tlanxla - Tlax - Tlaxtlan - Xahutec - Xhotl - Xiliquncani - Xlanhuapec - Xuhua - Zlatlan - Zultec Mission: Onslaught, Dawn of War. I deployed fairly centrally and far forwards, opponent put tac squads in the middle, then termies and dread on the flanks - I think this was their main big mistake. I put my objective in their DZ to the right flank, they put theirs in the middle of my DZ. We also implemented countershading, which is when animals are darker from above, and paler below, which you can see on the Saurus Warriors. We blended these transitions but the miniatures and our paint schemes are designed to make this approachable for any level of hobbyists – you could achieve a similar effect with Contrast and targeted drybrushing! The Grease-cats have a jumbled, motley look, like they’re supplementing their gear with private salvage. This made it easier to mix-and-match as the mood took me, meant I never got tired of coming up with new troopers, and opened up a great variety of parts from both kits. It also disguised some of my mistakes…

Fowler’s Amazon Team – The Hexalotl Jaguars

Emma: I’ve been painting for many years, and Contrast is one of the most fun and versatile paint ranges I’ve worked with. They are easy and fun to use, making armies faster than ever to paint. Tacticals - not the best place for my hydran examplar, held ground and advanced well - they're called Taxticals for a reason, right? A rhino would have helped get them up table fast.

Calivers - crippled by night fighting, these need the nuncio/whatever helps them shoot at full range, and maybe a signum. Emma: This colour is all about punch, it’s so bright and powerful. Doomfire Magenta straight out of the pot gives you a vivid pink for cloth or magic spells. It also suits Daughters of Khaine or Escher Gangers if you want some cool pink hair colours. The Adeptus Mechanicus have a variety of textures in their models, including some scaly and reptilian parts, providing an opportunity to use Kroxigor Scales to create an interesting contrast. Finally, Astra Militarum models can be painted with a variety of colors and textures, and Kroxigor Scales can be used to create an unexpected but visually interesting color scheme. Kroxigor Scales Colour Schemes & Combinations Mortarion Grime is a lovely shade of yellowy filth that’s perfect for weathering war machines and dirtying grizzled behemoths. Tyran Blue and Berserker Bloodshade offer new ways to shade reds and blues that are more vivid than our existing hues, while Soulblight Grey is great for shading pale paint schemes.

Glotl Stop

Our paint scientists haven’t stopped there. White Scar is our best ever white spray paint. It applies smoothly and with absolutely no fuss, giving you the perfect foundation for painting dazzling colours – and it works particularly well with our most vibrant new Contrast paints. They retain some of their Astra Militarum-issue fatigues, but they have donned the panoply of their new cult. They wield a mixture of standard weapons combined with what they have managed to scavenge from the hive worlds, while carrying grim trophies of xenos slain in battle across the galaxy. You can also see my initial forays into AL in the army, namely the halved scheme on the destroyers. I'm loathe to repaint while there's other units to paint for the first time, so I'll probably finish them off then save them for another day. I think I've pulled the trigger fully on the metlaiic teal alphas, so I'll stop dallying with other schemes and go with that.

I’m an adequate painter at best, but I’m pleased with the results. The cloaks and tunics are Altdorf Guard Blue , shaded with Drakenhof Nightshade , while the padding is all Kantor Blue . The metals are Retributor Armour shaded with Reikland Fleshshade , while I used Mechanicus Standard Grey everywhere else. Snakebite Leather is my favourite Contrast – perfect for one-coat leathers. My tip for hazard stripes when you don’t have a steady hand? Make sure Emma from the Warhammer TV painting team owes you a favour. Siraxues High-hivers maintain a tradition of martial sponsorship, as wealthy chem-syndicates win prestige by funding ambitious platoons in highly publicised battles to ascend spireward. The patronage continues when these soldiers are called up, repaid with constant bulletins of victory. Adeptus Mechanicus: The Adeptus Mechanicus are a faction of the Imperium of Man that specialize in technology and machines. These models often feature a metallic and mechanical appearance, but some also have scaly and textured components. Kroxigor Scales can be used to create an interesting contrast and help to add more depth to these models. Cohort of Huatl - Some of the most dedicated Kroxigors to ever spawn from Huatl, this cohort is eager to slaughter the warriors of the younger races.

Tidy up anything on the skin as needed, but you can get away with a bit of sloppiness due to the organic nature of the model. I then highlighted the skin with pure Deepkin Flesh. Whether they’re celestial Starborne or junge-dwelling Coalesced, the Seraphon are a varied army comprising saurians of all shapes and sizes. They look fabulous, and to find out how this huge range was painted, we got in touch with Max from the ’Eavy Metal team. Next is my vows for the Bug's Life painting challenge, but in terms of Alphas, I'd like to get my volkite support squad done, but I also really need to get another troop and a HQ done. I've converted up a Vigilator, which you'll see below, who'll be good for small games, however I'm thinking of converting up a Delegatus also, or trying to get my hands on Skorr to give me Pride of the Legion, and use my other veteran squad. Jim: Yes, Bob, but if a Kroxigor catches your punch with its open jaws, you’ll have to replace what’s left of your fist with an ACTUAL hook… Aeldari Emerald is a colour unlike any in the current Contrast range, giving you a brand new choice for a whole range of effects.

All of the gold areas were base coated with Dragon’s Gold by Two Thin Coats ( Retributor Armor GW), including the shields, even though they were primed with gold. This just makes sure everything is the same shade of gold. Emma: Gutrippa Flesh is terrific and will save a lot of time when painting Kruleboyz or Gretchin as it gives an excellent base colour and shade that suits these boyz down to the ground. It’s really great for camo cloth too! You also don’t need to kitbash every single model in the army! When I build up my Siraxues High-hivers, I’ll definitely reserve the Lumineth heads for highborn Officers and Veterans, to ensure they stand out while giving the army a distinctive flair. As is standard with Blood Bowl teams, you get two identical sprues. Each sculpt has two head options for variety, and the thrower has ball-toting and empty right hand options. Lined up, the team has plenty of variation and doesn’t feel too samey. This purple is the primary colour representing the Old One Tepok,* so you can see purple tones and hues across the celestite found in weapons and accessories wielded by the Seraphon, and also in the shading and glazing on the gold medals. Counter to that, you can see red come across in spawnings blessed by Sotek, the most warlike of the Old Ones. These colours appear in the head markings and skink handprints on the Kroxigor Warspawned. Lizardmen teams everywhere have been hiring these monstrous reptiles to dominate the line of scrimmage, freeing up their Saurus to do what they do best – punch, claw, and bite their way through the opposition to create space for a speedy Skink to slip through and make for the end zone. James created a spectacular feathered rainbow on his Lord of Change by thinning his Contrast paints right down to a glaze consistency with Contrast Medium . Then he applied lots of thin layers onto his Greater Daemon, slightly overlapping layers of Celestium Blue , Dreadful Visage , Sigvald Burgundy , Karandras Green , and more to retain vibrant paint colours while building up a smooth, ‘wet blend’ gradient between each hue. Daniel Veress Teal and turquoise are crucial when painting lizards, magic effects, and Space Marines like the Alpha Legion – and Kroxigor Scales fits alongside Leviadon Blue and Akhelian Green to give you even more choice.
